I have a savage w/sirio .27 that I race ..I had stock spur gear in it for about a mounth(I'm surprised it lasted this long)..whats a good spur gear tooth number for racing? I race at a big track, but with alot of turns..and does it matter to change tooth number on my spur gear if I continue useing stock clutch bell?

heres a pic of the track..

If you put an spur gear with a high number of teeth, that means bigger, you would have more torque (power) in your truck but you would reach a low top speed. while if you put an smaller spur gear (less teeth) in your truck, you would reach a higher top speed than usual but your trucks power would low down. you can still use your stock cluth bell with any spur gear.

First, you need to decide if you are happy w/ it in it's current set-up. If the acceleration isn't as fast as you want, you'd probably want a higher-tooth spur, but if your not happy w/ the top speed, then you'd want the smaller spur....

Ahh...kinda reminds me of when I got my first nitro rc...the hpi rush, and I wanted to order a spur w/ as little teeth as possible so it'd go fast, I ended up ordering a Micro RS4 Pinion LOL. Had to send it back to hobby people once I found out there was no way it'd work...lol.

I run a 15/47 combo with my Mach 26 for racing and it is a fairly tight track but I seem to pull the gear great. Maybe try a 16/47 setup.

Ask your fellow racers at the track for advice. I know when I used to race many years ago I would gladly give out advice on setups for the track I ran on.

i run a 15/52 at the track. quick accel
and a 18/47 bashing. killer top speed.

I have the Siro .27 11 port, I run 17/52. The motor has tons of power and this set up seems to work for me.
