I am finally getting an area to keep all my tools in the basement and I am wondering what you guys are using for a tool chest, I am really just looking for something cheap as it will only be me using it.

I checked Sears and they have some nice craftsmen sets but I am reallt not trying to spend anything over $200 if I can the cheaper the better, just looking to get something that will last me a few years and then I can get something nice.

I figured many of you always working on R/C's may probably have one.

if it's just for RC stuff then check out the Plano 777 tackle box.....it seems like it was made to be an RC pit box.....

I have my own little corner with a desk. All my crap is in the drawers, and I have a plano tackle box for when I'm away from home.

I keep my a lot of my tools that I use frequently in here. It makes it easy when I pack up for a day of running the trucks.

I just close it and take it with me!!

I think it was 24 bucks.

I also have a tackle bag that has plastic storage boxes in it and I use it for spare parts for each vehicle.

Are you asking about a tool CHEST or a tool BOX?

I use a tall Craftsman tool chest to work on my R/C's in the garage (I prefer to stand up when I work) and I use the Plano box for the track, plus the OFNA rolling pit bag.

I use a gigantic Plano box as a pit box too. (I dont recall the model).

Here is a photo of it.

Sorry guys I have a box like those I was looking for a stand up type chest deal with like 6-10 drawers up top and a bigger bottom area to hold power tools etc.

I saw one at walmart for $69 bucks that looked kinda crappy and was made cheap so my dad suggested I pay a little more and get something like a craftsmen from sears.

Well I just got back from sears and all the chests they have are just as cheaply made as the walmart one but $200-500 so I guess I will stick with the walmart one then.

Sears has some awesome ones will ball bearing rollers that are made of nice thick steel but unless you have 1k to blow (I don't) it is pretty much the same cheap stuff.

I also found this one which looks ok but it is only a little bigger than the walmart one

How about something like this:

I don't have one, but I have always wanted one for the garage/work area. Has a nice work top on it.

I bought the Craftsman 8 drawer model that has a top height of 42"'s as, like I said, I stand up a lot when I work. I use the top as my movable workbench. I can put the chest anywhere in the garage that I need or want it to be. The one Candyman pictured was my second option, but that top, if I remember correctly, was only 33'"s high.

BTW, I only paid 149.00 for mine on sale at Sears.

I think that is the same one I am going to get, I checked out the walmart one again and its all wobbly(sp?) so I will probably go with the Craftsmen for $159 I think it is the same one you probably have. It is a little better built and I have always bought craftsmen hand tools so I may as well just go for it.

Right now everything is in the corner of a closet so trying to work on some of that organization stuff the wife keeps talking about :fro:

what kind of power tools you talkin about storing...if you got woodworking tools you should make a shelf for it...I made my closet in my old condo a work space for my stuff.....too small to make stuff in but I could store all my tools in there....had a work table and an old machinist chest I built into the wall.....I'm always a proponent of making your own even if it costs close to buying it pre-made....one, you'll have exactly what you want and two, you learn a new skill that might help you later down the road....

If you have a Sears mall store by you look for scratch and dent too boxes also they might have something that would be a little nicer but it would also be a little cheaper. I used to work at Sears and I know we used to get alot of shipping damaged items.

I bought a Tool box from a store called Big Lots, I paid a whole 7.50 for it lol. It works great on the lid it has 2 clear compartments where I shocks, glow plug ingniters things like that. I also got a clear case that fits perfect in the box that has seperate compartments all this cost me under 10 bucks :D I will post some pics if I can find batteries for my Digital camera. Ok here they are, I need to clean it all out lol its a mess and I havent even used the clear box yet. Anyway works good for 10 bucks
