When they balloon out, only the very center of the tread is making contact with the surface instead of the entire tire. Far less control, but at the same time, some added speed due to the the circumference of the ballooned tires.

There is also less rolling resistance due to a smaller contact patch on the road.

i kind of prefer the chicken tape.

i've tested stotch brand vs no-name brands. The scotch has good elasticity. Cheaper brands simply snap under load. Gorialla tape is definitely stronger than regular duct tape, but i found it over-kill.
