I've been looking at pictures of tmaxxes and some have some small batteries like sitting on top of the front bumper is that for the reciever or what???

Yes - some peeps scrap the batt box and put them around the front shock tower. This is more typical to a .21 conversion.

Ok, million dollar question here, why put the batteries on the front bumper area on a 21? I mean mine flies great with the battereis where they are.
