is this alright.. maybe just the first top fin.. let's say with heat resistant paint.. it should still cool the engine right?

Gdog - the high temp paint will work as far as not cracking or peeling, but it will severely hinder the cooling effects of the heat sink. the reason it cools, is that the air cooling the aluminium, in turn transfers to the rest of the block, because aluminium has such great heat dissipating properties. by painting the cooling head, u now have eliminated that effect.

however - u also mention that u might want to just paint the top fin. i dont see any problem with that at alll.

hope i helped.

yeah, the bare metal touching the air is what cools the engine. If you paint it, it's like adding a blanket. I've read similar things about painting the block.

not trying to hijack but when i took of my head on my picco the other day it had ano under there this stuff has to hold in heat.

what the hell does that mean? whats "ano"? "under there this stuff"?

ok the head has anodizing on it there is a plate thing (dont know what it is called)that the head bolts too that has the plug in it.if the ano was removed it would have more metal to metal area for better cooling.just my thoughts.

anodizing isnt paint, that is why it is okay. when u anodize something it is induced via an electrical charge, like the apply chrome. think of it like dye.

it will affect it it slightly, but for the most part, that is correct. black anodizing will dissipate heat better than gold anodizing, but were talking single degrees here.
