hey what gearing are you guys with the big engines running. I am gonna get either a novarossi .28 or a collari .30 soon and was wondering what gearing to run. I was thinking of starting with 18/49 andg oing from there... input?!!!!! thanx

I have the SH .28 and I prefer 18/47 with stock sized tires. Remeber the hieght of the tire changes the gearing.

At that gearing I have to be close to 50 mph and it doesn't struggle to get to top speed.

right on. so the sh has no problem pulling even with that gearing?

17/47 or 18/47.

I like the 47T Spur better than the 49T. It is geared a little steeper (top end) and it makes it easier to mesh.

As I said the tire hieght has a lot to do with it. I wouldnt run the 18/47 with the LST tires but its perfect for the stock savage sized tires. I did run 18/49 for a few tanks but went back to the 47 tooth spur because it got better traction and had great top speed without a strugle to get there.

i will be running either stock tires or 40 series bowties at the track... i think i will start with 18/49 and go from there... the 47T spurs seem kind of hard to get ahold of right now.

I have an 18t clutch bell. Which spur should i pick up for moabs? Running a collari.

Thats a little tall for the stock engine. I would leavve it stock.

I'm also running 18/47 with my .30. Even with my heavy beadlocks there is very little loss of low end power and scary fast top end. With this combo I will not need the 3 speed, I already run out of room with the 2 speed.

ok sweetdiesel thats what i was looking for.. my .30 should be here shortly so i guess i found my new gearing... thanx alot

I am running a 16/49 with the collari .30 and it seems to be a perfect mix of high and low power.

hehe I'm getting mixed feelings here... i guess ill just have to do some experimenting. man i can't wait.

oh yeah sorry my gearing works well cuz I have a 3 speed. sick low end and more top end than I have room for on my little street.

Experimenting is half the fun! Get both 16T and 18T clutchbell and see which one you like better, always nice to have a spare.

I have an 18... came with my truck. so i will pick up a 16 as well... i made an escel spreadsheet with all the ratios and whatnot on it so i can see what it all equals out to. some of them are really close. kind of surprised me

I'm running a 16/48 haven't actually ran it yet but i'll see what it does tomorrow.

As I said above -> For the street you will definitely want 17/47 or 18/47. Anything steeper (higher numerically) will just result in too many uncontrollable wheelies in first gear (even from a roll) with a strong motor. The 47T spur is a good compliment to a big bell (like a 17 or an 18) because it allows you to mesh without pushing the motor on top of the TVP.

When running offroad 16/49 or 17/49 is pretty good.

I run 18/47 both on and off road with my .30. I see very little difference between the two other than traction problems off road from spinning the tires due to aggressive throttle. I do have a 16T cb but I haven't felt the urge to pull it out since the 18T is not straining my engine.
