I am getting ready to break in my new Revo 3.3. The shop says Traxxas 20%is the best. My buddy says no way, go with Blue Thunder. It seems like everyone has a different opinion. Is there going to be much of a difference in performance? Any recommendations would be appreciated.
 
Well, in all honesty all you are going to get is opinions :)

I went with the Traxxas Top Fuel 33% because that is what Traxxas designed to run in the 3.3. I acknowledge that there is likely an element of marketing in there but I know they tested the crap out of it with this engine. Oh, and for the record, my LHS recommended 20% and acted surprised when I said that Traxxas recommends 33%...which they (the LHS) don't carry, coincidence?

Be warned, what you fuel you run is somewhat of a religious debate for some :D

Are you racing or bashing? I don't race so I've used nothing but Traxxas 20% in my original 2.5r. It has over 5 gals through it and still has plenty of punch, still using original one-way bearing. It was my introduction to nitro so everything was done by the book, right down to the after-run procedure with, yes, ( hold on, HappyWino, another religious debate ) WD-40 only.
I suppose if your racing, the extra money for 33% would be worth it.
 
I am using something that my nitro rotor-head friends suggested:

Cool Power 15%

It has better cooling and lube for helicopters which means that I can lean the snot out of it and still get respectable lubing and not much heat (my temps last time I checked were right in the normal range for a Traxxas). It actually makes more power and launches better than the lhs's racing Revo with 30%. :2cents:
 
Trinity MHP is a good fuel, but as has been mentioned, you're going to get a variety of opinions. I ran Blue Thunder for many years but my LHS stopped carrying it. When I switched to the Trinity fuel, it was a night-and-day difference, in my opinion. My rigs started easier, had more power and stayed cooler.
 
stick with traxxas 33%. I was running 20% in my 2.5r and I swiched to 33% and wow what a difference.

Interesting thinking here......I may have to try some of that stuff.........I have been mixing fuel in various combos of 20 and 33....using the traxxas 33 to cut say trinity 20

I have had good results and I am dialing in a blend I like......but the 15 idea is worth a gallon....perhaps an 18 percent mix.

I use 25/14 better lube on the 14% oil but compensate for heat it will produce. dont go lean - you will fry the head. Cooling on REVO is poor unless u duct from the front grill through the boddy with some electricians pipe.

I ran my engine in on 20/16 then retuned it with the 25/14. reason is that many racers dont push their engine beyond 3/4 throttle for about 12 tanks and then change the fuel up when its settled - the % up should only be 5% increment so you can go to 30 then 33, but there is very little difference in performance with fuel. There are so many other variable to give you more response, midspeed and topend. The setup is somewhat endless because as you do something to redesign the physics of your truck it will compensate somewhere to either cause a problem or you can be really lucky and stumble upon something new that works great.
 
I just read the owners manual on the Revo 3.3 and it stated that there is no difference in the amount of lubrication between the 20% and the 33% fuel, only the amount of heat from burning hotter. Is this a correct reflection of what i read?
 
This thread got me thinking.. I ran Traxxas 20% in my 2.5R and when I put in my Sirio .23 I just continued to run the same fuel. Now, would i benefit from gradually switching to 33%? What kind of change would I see? I do a lot of bashing but will often run it full open in parking lots

Same here....it was a blessing in disguise when they stopped carrying Blue Thunder.
 
i dont know to much about these things this is my second one and i have the 4 tec 3.3 and my LHS told me to use 33%
