What do you think, worth it?

I personally don't think it would be worth it. If you bend a rim its pretty much toast, and its a fraction of the cost to buy another plastic rim compared to buy one aluminum rim. Thast just my .02. Those do look badass tho!

Hmm...is it worth it? That's up to you. I will say those wheels look totally SWEET!!! I'm sure they will look more than insane on a Savage. They are pricey and do weigh a lot. My big fear would be bending them or denting them bad enough to throw their performance off.

Yeah, they do look awesome. I'm trading in my savage to get a new Savage SS 4.6 kit, and that comes with Dirt Bonzes tires and they wouldn't be the best for where I drvie, so I'm thinking about getting another set. I'd put bigger, more knobby tires on it so I'd have the racy Dirt Bonzes and a bashing type tire with the Al rims.

It would suck if they bent, but I would think they would be VERY hard to bend. I'm not sure if these are, but some are warrentied for life from any bending/breaking. They must be pretty strong.

All I do is go around the yard and stuff, and my savage will Have either HPI's new K4.6 .28 or a Wasp .28 so I'll have quite a bit of power to move em'. I'm really thinking about these...lol.

It looks like everyone already mentioned the downside to aluminum. But I will admit that when you see a pair in person, aluminum rims look bad ass.

I say if the funds are right and you want them, then do it. The normal price range for a full set is usually around $90 and UP.

Show us some pics if you decide to get them.

I would go with RPM rims. Awesomely durable and light-weight. If you manage to break one like I did you can get replacements for free under RPMs warranty.

Yeah, but I just think Aluminum Rims would be sooo sick! Right now I'm bidding on some Proline Velocity 6s w/Maxx Mashers. If I don't win those I might get some Aluminum Rims.

Do you really think they will slow my truck down considerably with a .28??

There was a guy at the VA bash last year who had a set of aluminum rims and a Picco .26. At the time all I had was a stock savage with some lightweight stuff done to it. But I can say that even w/ the rims, his truck was still hauling @#$. I didn't run against him, but just seeing his truck rip across the ground, you could tell that he would have got me (on top speed - don't know about off the line).

Anyway, I don't think they will rob power from you. The Big Joes probably drain more power than the aluminum ones. BTW, does anyone have a set of aluminum rims that they know the weight for?

If so, let us know so we can compare some weights. If not, you should probably send the guy in the auction a question and ask him if he knows the weights. Sometimes they will have a weight for you.

Lets see:
Stock Savage Tires/Rims: 332g x 4 = 1328g total

440g isn't bad at all. You can counter the weight of the rim by going with some lighter tires. I know my Baja w/ Trinity foams come in at 268g.

So for example:
Aluminum Rims + Baja/Trinity: 440g + (268g x 4) = 1512g
That's only 184g over stock. There are other lighter tires out there.

Another example:
Proline Bowties + Aluminum Rims: 440g + (159g x 4) = 1076g total.
So that setup would actually be lighter than the stock setup.

Just some things to think about. Let me know if you need weights on a particular tire, I have a nice database that I use and I might know what it is.

Well the thing that I don't know is if they are for 40 Series Tires, or for stock savage size? I asked but haven't got a reply.

If 40 Series I would probably try out the Proline Maxx Mashers.
If stock I would probably use the stock Savage tires, becasue they get some damn good grip.

Thanks for all your help DL, your avatar is awesome!

i have a set of nice purple aluminum rims for my savage, I bought them for the maxx, but never used them.

The came it at less than an ounce heavier than the stock t-maxx tires back when I weighed them. I really don't think you will noticed a performance difference with the engines you will be running.

Thanks for all the great info guys, but I'll be holding off on the Aluminum Rims for now. I won a full set of Proline Velocity 6 rims with Maxx Mashers on them for $33, so I'll give those a try instead.

I would save the money and buy some RPM off/set wheels or the "Maximizer 75 beadlocks". Then I would invest in a Novarossi .28, 8 port!
