As I was cleaning My Savage I got this idea and wanted to see what you guys think I make RC bodies and was thinking about making a Lexan cover for the chassis (frame) I could form it to fit like a glove I not only think it will keep it cleaner but it should go threw weeds and tall grass better + the guys that went a little overbord on customizing the underneth and now can't enjoy it as much because they dont want to scratch it could just slip the cover on it and have fun again. You can paint it to match your truck or leave it clear. I'm going to make it go around the outside of the gas tank for added protection .I'll have to think of what to do about fitting it close to the exhaust .The only other problem would be air to cool the engine but if that's the case I could mold a small scoop into it. Anyway do you think this is a good idea or did I stay up past my bed time to long??

I dont think it would be a big seller.. Sounds like it would be more trouble than it's worth.. I'd like to see a custom DaHellion MT body....

if it could fit under a standard body to keep the track grime out it might sell if you can show it really works......what exactly was the design you were thinking??? how hard is it to make a one off body out of lexan?

ImBroken the new avatar is funny stuff man....that sums up my work day pretty good

MT Body

I am having the worst time desiging a MT Body. Some of the ones I have done look nice but just lack that bad ass look that I think a MT should have. But I never quit and I'm getting closer. I guess it would be better if I built the under cover first instead of trying to discribe it. As far as making it out of Lexan I have big machines that do that part .Making the mold is the hard part but I'll go ahead and do one and take some pics to see what you guys think

Ya, I may be interested after seeing some pics of it, or proof that it works, and other stuff like how much it weighs and ect.

you would have problems with aftermarket parts clearance.. and if you cut a hole for the aftermarket stuff then the thing wouldnt do its job.. great idea, i just think your gonna have fitment problems..

Well, not sure about a whole chassis cover, but HPI has a lexan radio lid for the Savage. Makes putting the radio cover on a snap. Also, it's clear so you can see your servos and stuff burning, I mean, working. It can be painted to match your truck, or maybe a candy, semi-transparent, color.
The thing was just around $6. Pretty cool.

I have been thinking about doing something like this for a while now. My idea was much simpler though. I was just going to put a thin (.20/.30) piece of lexan behind the TVP's to keep the rocks/dust out. I would only cut out the section where the steering tierods are. This would basically make the TVP's solid with no holes. When used with my Lexan center skid this would keep the entire underside of the Savage clean from dust and debris. You could even go a step further by sealing around the TVP's holes with silicon and using rubber boots around the steering tie rods to make it almost water proof.

lol, I already have that, I have a little portable one for the track too, but the less you have to clean, the better...

That's the point

It just such a pain in the ass to clean it all the time .I use a compressor but that makes a mess too cause it blasts that dirt and mud all over. This cover I'm talking about would help keep it clean and keep weeds and junk out of the inner drivetrain most of which comes from the front tires and hopefully provide extra protection And I will have to do a lot of testing and I want it easy to put on and off but don't want it flying off while bashing and I will have to put some backward facing scoops for cooling and drainage . I took my Savage apart and put the frame together with the skid pads and the cover would cover the sides and bottom with the top still open It will have to be a snug fit because I don't want it filling up with dirt . Heres another one of my hairbrain ideas LOL I am going to build a tray that the truck will sit on but keep the wheels up so when I have it in the car it wont make a mess dripping gas and mud. I got this idea when I was braking in a engine on a car and I thought I got all the old fuel out of the pipe but the next morning I found a nice little trail of fuel on my carpet stairs

The stand idea is pretty cool, but just make sure it's not supporting the wheels, but merely right under them. Nit-pickers like me don't like to have the shocks compressed while not in use so the springs don't in turn, get softer/more compressed. I'm sure other people on here are like that, or maybe it's just me... But when I was a n00b to rc, I just let my car sit on a table w/o any type of stand, and the springs ended up getting a lot softer to where I had to buy new ones. So, I've always been kinda worrysome about that w/ my rc's.
