I'm looking into getting a new MT. I'm not sure how much i will NEED 4wd, how much would it really help out ?. but I'm just wondering. is there a 2 speed that i can put into a sport maxx ? can i just use the one from the regular t maxx > i really want a monster truck , but i dont know about paying 400 bucks for one. any info would help .

From all the info out there and my neighbor who just got one, the sport maxx is the same truck as the tmaxx, just w/o 2speed, rvrs, 4x4, and 3ch radio. for my money, i would get the sport maxx. He says it goes just as fast as the tmaxx, maybe even faster, as the extra weight offsets the 2nd gear on the tmaxx. plus, if u ever wanted to upgrade to a tmaxx, you can with just some simple parts. I personally think that 4x4 is highly overrated, unless you drive it frequently in very soft sand. Prior to his sportmaxx, he had/has a traxxas nitro stampede, which is 2wd, and it just goes everywhere, I've driven it.

its is as powerful and maybe a little more do to the fact there are less drivelines and linages to lose power at and it is also lighter but not faster due to the 2 speed in the T-Maxx. I have yet to see the Sport run but I would expect it to accelerate faster than the T due to the above explained.

yeah. i figured that it would be a little faster and maybe jump better because of hte weight, and i am still really considering it, but i just remembered how much bigger the SAVAGE is then the T maxx ... I'm stuck on what to do here ... i think I'm going to go to my shop and drive both and see how i like it. thanks for your help guys, ill keep you posted on what happens

or make it do 40 mph if you buy the 2-speed which is available for it. I race on dirt tracks or play on dirt tracks so Top speed is nice to tell someone when the ask you but I rarely opem my maxx up into second on the dirt.

blazer , i mostly play on dirt, cement, and grass, nothing really that would REQUIRE 4wd. but i am not so sure about durability on the maxxs, i hear a lot of things break on them and that you have to upgrade a lot of stuff for real hard bashing, which is not really the case with the savage. i will be doing really big jumps with this truck, so i need it to hold up to the abuse

If you plan to "abuse" your T-Maxx in the fashion that most of us do, then you will want to start buying hop-ups that will maximize the strength of the T-Maxx. I highly recommend going with RPM products for the A-Arms, Shock Towers, skid plates, and anything else you can get your hands on.

I recommend a good solid spine to support your chassis. That entails buying some aluminum chassis braces, bulkheads, and bulkhead braces.

Next, to keep the suspension aligned and bend free, I recommend some titanium turnbuckles and hinge pins.

The stock shocks are not the best in the world. I recommend replacing them with your choice of all aluminum bodied shocks with some quality springs. There are a number of quality aluminum shock kits out there (I use Team Associated or AE shocks). For springs I use Trinity blues and blacks. There are some other companies out there that make great springs, but these always seem to work for me. Why do I mention shocks? Because as you add weight to your T-Maxx (which the aluminum parts I mentioned will do) you are going to want some quality shocks to support the landings on the air you seek.

Other standard additions include a quality fuel and quality air filter. I use Dynamite for the fuel filter and MotorSaver for the air.

Other possible upgrades include a better steering servo, a ProLine steering kit, and a good tuned pipe. You can find many, many more options out there.

Even on a 2x4 SportMaxx, the above should make it better. I personally would recommend getting the 4x4 version, but that is me. Trust me there are places a 4x4 can go that no 2x4 would dare, but I'm a basher not a speed demon. Hope this helped.
