View attachment 5254 ok so a buddy has a piece that has chipped off of the outer bottom right screw hole , can this affect anything ? like air leaks or anything of that sort cause he is abit scepticle about driving it and the lhs hasnt the piece for another week.and he has only 2 screw holding it down instead of 4, its on a savage x where th rotostart is

I don't know for sure that it will hurt any thing but missing screws are never good and can usually cause worse problems.

if the chip doesn't go into the engine anywhere it should be fine.

It won't affect the engine, only the starting system. I had the problem with my X, and every now and then the rotostart would jam up because the rotostart back plate was not perfectly straight/tight on there. If he notices it jamming up tell him to stop right away and try and get it on there as tight as possible.

If it looks like what boutch has described, I do not think it will be a problem. NOW...if the damage has a crack going inward to the center, I would replace. But that pic Boutch has attached looks harmless... I would be careful when using the rotostart. Verify that the housing has not come loos due to the lack of one screw.

:goodpost: Thanks alot Jon2 !!! Wanted the opinion of somebody else to make sure, and yes i check the rotostart often to make sure it does'nt come loose and eats up another OWB...:thankyou:

yup, i had the exact same thing happen to one of my engines, just make sure the back plate is tight on the engine, and check the roto start plate periodically to make sure it is tight, or it may slip or bind, depending on which way it moves.
