Well, today I heard that a friend of mine's son has been diagnosed with WNV. I took a look at the CDC's site on it today and it's much worse that I thought. I heard of about 8 total deaths, didn't care much about the people infected and where they were. The toll is up to about 10 deaths in Cali alone and about 343 diagnosed people.

I didn't think it was that bad... this has got me a little worried now. The kid I know that was diagnosed lives about an hour away, and two days before that the last case was reported about 3 hours away. So it should hit this place pretty soon.

I read about the effects of the virus and it turns out there are 3 variations of it or something like that. They didn't sound like fun, they mainly left nerve damage if they get bad.

Thats been in my area for a few years now.
It usually effects older people and infants.
It's not unheard of for others to contract WNV, but less likely.
We have trucks riding the streets at night with blowers, spraying mosquito killing insectaside. We get about 10 cases a year in Staten Island NY. This year has been quiet. (thank God)
Good luck with that. I hope it doesn't come to your area.
I fear for my kids all the time.

did you know that the first real signs were found in North Ventura county near Kern County? Its pretty close to me as well then. We are all going to die!!!

It's pretty much all over the country now. Some places worse than others. Birds keep it moving. They get bitten, get the virus, and their migration takes them elsewhere before they die of it. When they are bitten by a healthy mosquito, the virus goes to the next generation of mosquitoes.
When I lived in New York, they sprayed for it with helis, in 2000.

There are more than 300 known cases in California so far. Get out the repellant with Deet in it.

We have wetlands throughout the master plan of our area so I'm giving serious consideration to buying one of the mosquito killers that give off carbon dioxide to attract and trap them. Anyone know anything about this?

Here you go Stretchm.
I hope this helps.. $200 beans though.

A customer of mine has one of those mosquito repellers... He goes through a 20# propane tank every 2 weeks... It can get costly, because you have to run it 24.7 for it to work right.. I saw it with my own eyes... IT WORKS... He showed me the little mesh net that catches them all.... There were literally hundred of these bastards from only a 4 day period...

The second half of August through mid September seem to be the time that those little critters are out in full force. For some reason they like to bite me. My family can be outside at the same time and usually I'm the only one getting bit. Go figure.

$200 doesn't sound too bad when compared to having to spray myself with repellant.
Thanks.

It's got a catchy name. lol I have a small electric zapper here. It's totally silent, no arcs or anything. And it catches a lot of them. I didn't think it was working too well and I went over to check it out and there were hundreds of them. It works pretty good.

a cheaper method is to stay in the house!!! or have rolex park that limo in front of your house and keep it running the exhaust fumes should chase them away!!!

Rolex, do we get the RCNT discount this weekend?

As long as ANYONE else is around, I don't get bothered by mosquitoes.
If you want to be totally safe from them, you can all sit in the back of the car, and I'll run a garden hose from the exhaust into a rear window. Please close the divider before I start the car.
And, yes, you get the RCNT discount.
