Ok guys when I'm starting my engine so I can try to tune it, if I hold my finger over the pipe tip it will start up and run as long as I keep my finger partially over the tip and when I move my finger off the tip the engine dies. now while its running and I pinch the fuel line it dies after 3 to 4 secs, so I seem to have the needles right on the carb. It is a M-16 megatech engine with a rotary carb. it appears to be the stock traxxas pipe, I took it apart to see if there was a screen or anything in the pipe and the pipe is empty...should there be one in there for backpressure??? it seems like it doesn't have much back pressure to me. Please help guys!

If you're doing the pinch while partially plugging the pipe to raise pressure, you're getting false information.
It sounds like you need to raise the LSN to allow more fuel in during idle.
Are you using the stock pipe?

it looks like a stock plastic traxxas pipe, it came on the maxx when i bought it. the guy I got it from said it was the original pipe. I tried to turning the lsn out while i have my finger on the tip and it still dies when i move my finger off the tip I've tried on the lean side and running it rich and it does the same thing either way. I dont understand this thing

Well, it's used. You need to go through the fuel lines, filter, tank and exhaust to make sure there are no leaks in the system robbing pressure. If there's no fuel filter, you might also have debris in the needle valve.

well I was investigating it some more and i pulled the line off the exhaust and blew in the line and the engine idles and runs fine... so it has to be the pipe, its got to have a crack or a leak somewhere in it. well looks like another trip to the hobby shop is in my near future. LOL! it does have a filter and new lines on it

the gasket looks ok, but the manifold is kinda beat up. so I'll prolly replace it and the gasket too

I had the exact same problem with my sirio .18tx engine. It took me forever to figure out what was wrong. I could blow into my pressure line or partially cover the stinger and the engine would run. After doing some digging, I found that my carb settings were way off on both the LSN and HSN. They were off by a couple of turns (I had them set to the Traxxas engine settings, not the sirio). Once I adjusted the carb properly, the engine started right up on the first try. Good luck.

my tmaxx will start then die after a few seconds and it would start on the ground when i put the ez start in it just takes off
