Going to need a new chassis. I thought the landing was good, but after closer inspection I found a right rear shock shaft that was slightly bent. And when it came down for a landing, the shock didn't compress (bent shaft) and as you can see something had to give. No, it couldn't be a plastic part, it had to be metal.
And not too mention replacing a chassis, probably the most labor intensive replacement. Anyways, should I go with the upgraded 7075 hardened anodized aluminum or all the way with Titanium ?

Happened to my Storm. Looking at either the Dynamite 7075 chassis for $69, the GS 7075 chassis for $86 or all the way with Hardcores Titanium chassis for $165. I need to squeeze in some new rear shocks too. I have a complete set of Traxxas big bores I never used on my maxx, suppose those would work ?

crap, if you're going to all the trouble to replace your chassis, don't skimp on the good stuff. seriously, for all that work, make it worth your time. the damage you did is pretty rare, so titanium would be on a personal preference because of the cost, and the "hey look at my ti chassis" cool factor. me.... i like the hardcore racing chassis....those are sweet.

ohh yeah, i think the difference b/t the aluminum and titanium is right around $30, so it's not too bad.

And my LHS guy has a Hardcore chassis in stock. So, if I can get away with using the Traxxas big bores, I can save money there and get the Ti chassis. (Wife is gonna kill me !!)

I have seen this happen on another Storm also. The countersunk holes are too close to the edge of the chassis.

Here is the failed shock. I just rebuilt these last week and look at the color of the oil that came out of it. The small washer that holds the dampening disk in place mushroomed and allowed the disk to slide up and down the shaft, (result - no dampening at all).

I wonder if Fiorni makes a chassis for the Storm. I would look into theirs as well.

Now sure if the big bores will work or not.

Yes, Fioroni Makes a Nice Chassis for the storm. My friend upgraded his to the Fioroni one after doing the same thing to his chassis. Retail of the price for the chassis is $85, my price is somewhere around $75 if you get it through me

Try comparing how big the storm shocks look compared to the Maxxes one. I believe that wont work, you could try some savage shocks *wink wink* but you should just buy new shocks.

O yeah, on the chassis, get titanium. Stick with those plastic parts! Man if the plastic outlasts the Chassis, something is way wrong!:redbuggy: :sniper:

Yeah, after looking at all the chassis I think I will go with the Hardcore Ti chassis. I know what you mean about the plastic
Silent. Before I upgraded to the Ti shock towers I was bending the factory aluminum ones during flips. But would the wing or wing mounts break ? Nope. There must be recipes that the companies have for their nylon/plastic parts. I've had good luck with all the plastic on the Storm but on my son's Duratrash Evader, I think we've busted just about every part there is made of plastic. The traxxas big bores are shorter than the stockers so new shocks are in my future too. My LHS have these nice mugen shocks, about $60 a set. Funny thing is, I had shock-sox on them and all that dirt still got in there. Might have had a bad o-ring seal at the base.

My friend busted his wing mount in half trying to do a backflip. He was at the worst angle too. He would of broken his shock tower and gear box but he has upgraded to the Dynamite shock towers and the Fioroni Ergal Rear Gearbox brace.

It really burns me up when the plastic parts that were supposed to break first survive and the alum parts that were supposedly built to last break.

Agree El Pirata, I would much rather have paid for and installed an A-Arm or knuckle. I guess this particular wreck speaks highly of GS's plastic parts but not of the Aluminum. Maybe it's not the material but the design. Just like FlyinRazorback stated, the screwholes/countersunk holes are too close to the edge.

Yeah I have blown stainless steel, hardened steel screws and alum several times while the plastic survived. It does say a lot about RPM durability though.
