RC Driving Style
Title says it all. I was doing a bit of bashing today. It rained literally all day Saturday here in East Texas. Well I figured it was pretty dry today to give it ago. Everything was good until I flipped it into a ditch. The ditch was still full of water. A very good about was sucked into the engine through the carb. Glow Plug was fouled from the water and I didn't have a spare. Also LHS were already closed. I pushed water out for 5 mins straight. I also drowned it with WD40 for the time being. I will not be able to get back to it till around 5pm tomorrow. I will get another glow plug on it and burn anything out of the engine. My question is will it be ok to sit for about 20 hours before I start it up? Everything I've found on Google has said to take immediate action. Did I do all I can do at the moment?
 
I would let it soak in WD till you can get to it! It will start to corrode almost immediately.
 
Chrome doesn't rust, nor does aluminum or brass. So the piston, sleeve, and sleeve coating is fine. That's your top half. Bottom half you have steel bearings, and a steel crank. There's your issue. Primarily the bearings. You got most of the water out. The internals are coated in oils which repel the water, then you drown it in a liquid that absorbs and lessens the oxidation effects of the water. You did everything right and will likely be completely fine. Start it up and run it easy for a few minutes in case a tiny bit of rust got on anything.
 
Update it turned on without a beat after I got the new glow plug installed
 
Such a warm tingley feeling watching your rig take a swim isnt it?! Lol just putting together a fried part shopping cart together in your head as you play search n rescue.....

Been there done that, except mine was electric, and had to run what felt like a mile to a steel grate I had to stand on and one arm grab it out of fast flowing water before it went through the grate and disapeared underground forever... Probably the closest I was to a stupidity "accidental" death if all didnt go smooth....
Good news it only cost me $250 and got footage of the ordeal on my youtube channel lol!....
 
If your piston and sleeve are tight they can still lock up from the water oxidizing the aluminum piston. Wd-40 is not the best choice since it can degrade the O-rings over time, but my guess is you'll be a-ok. Just make sure you get enough oil or wd on the crank bearings.
 
Oh I did and she has not missed a beat since... half gallon after the whole ordeal and she is shill running strong
