this is sorta to my earlier post (savage engine help).....I busted the block trying to get the seized sleve out so i bought a orion wasp 28.......i got it installed in my savy & started it with the pullstart.....it started on the second pull after i got the engine primed & idled a tank through it with no problem..........i let the engine cool which i didnt let it get over 180deg..........now i can't get the darn thing to crank at all.......i changed the turbo plug to a new one & that didnt help......i havent messed with the needles yet cause the book says to run 2-3 tanks through before adjusting.......i thought about heating the engine with a heat gun a bit but didnt wana hurt the engine......any suggestions ?/?

Are you saying you can not get the engine to turn over or will it just not start?

If you can't get it to turn over heating with a heat gun will help quite a bit and will not hurt anything. Heating it expands the metals in the engine so it will be easier to turn over. I know with my Wasp .28 it was VERY tight and I had to heat it a lot to get it to start once.

I had a wasp .28 with 2 gal. through it. That was still a tight mill. It was very easy to over-prime.

it turns over fine..just wont start a second time.....think ill try heating it a little or leaning it a hair

You can lean it some, as busted said they are very easy to flood and come very rich from the factory. Only lean it in very small incriments until you can get it to start. 180 is a little low for breakin, it would be good to get it over 200 or so so the sleeve can properly expand and you'll get a good breakin.

Have you checked the plug with an ignitor out of the engine and see it glowing? I know you said you got a new one, but the brand new glow plug that came with my P5 was dead before the first start.

Also you can try turning up the idle a bit with the trim on your radio, becareful with this tho, you may not realize how much you turn it up and if it fires it'll run away from you, just turn it a little bit it should be all you need. I learned that the hard way lol.

ok.....i leaned it in 1/8th turns till i got it to start finaly......its set at 4 1/2 rounds open from the closed position on the high needle.....the idle is fine so far.....havent done the low side yet......theese wasp engines sure are built to close tollerances.....much better than the hpi 25.......man i wanna see what this engine does for my savy so bad.......my trigger finger wansta punch the gas really hard......how many tanks do i need to run before i can run wide open ?

i had nothing but problems when i got mine went through 3 pullstarts and a back plate sent it in they put new piston and sleeve new back plate and a new pullstart cost zero

You will love the engine once you get it tuned, it really makes the savage haul some ass. I would get around 5 tanks through it before I went WOT, but some will say more some may say less, breakin seems to have many different opinions on how to do it.

i finnaly got it to start after lunch today......i broke the pull rope, pulled the engine out & put the rotostart on it & put it back in.......still had to preheat the engine with a heat gun to get it to start......starts real easy now but still have some breaking in to do......only ran 4 tanks through it so far.....
