I have a heat gun in the garage, but what do you guys use to bring up the engine temps in the field before running?

Unless the engine has not been well broken in, or its 50°F or lower I let the engine warm up by itself.

oh, I was under the impression that it was a practice to continue, even after the break-in.

It's not necessary. Racers will do it to lessen the time it takes to warm up before a race, but after the engine is broken in, if it's warm out you really don't have to preheat.

note: flash points, methanol 52 degrees F. nitromethane 95 degrees F. the high plash point of nitro makes it hard to light. gasoline -45 degrees F. add a small amount of gasoline will make it easier to start. that is what top fuel racers use.

for give me i wasn't trying to put anyone down. you are right the RCs run a small amount of nitro. i was just trying to point out something that some may not know. if i ever get my jato together iam going to try 50%.

50%! Why? Would you shorten the life of the mill? And need some serious shimming?

years ago we used to say "TIP THE CAN" easy way to get more power. only if you have a big enough combustion chamber. yes i know ill need shims, i have some traxxas shims but they are not very thick. i think ill have to get some custom made. how thick for how much nitro?

I think the traxxas shim is .03..... I'd say run 2 of the stock shims and see what happens. You'll probably want to try a medium plug as well.

i think large amounts of nitro would need much more shim. back in the old days the guys running small block chevys would keep dumping nitro, when it got to 40-45% it stoped making power. but the cheysler 426 hemi will take 100%. so i think a rc nitro engine should much more than .03-.06. mm. about .02-.03 inches. just a big guess.
