well i want to get a xray m18t pro. and am wanting a brushless system. probly going to be a 6800kv mamba setup. I'm wanting to do some research before i buy do here goes some questions
do i need lipos
what kind of run time am i looking at.
any tips on battery discharging

You do not NEED to run lipos.

Runtime will depend on the capacity of the pack.
