I have no allegiance to any type of RC...i think they are all wonderful......this isn't Ford vs Chevy..Artic cat vs polaris..us vs them...... to me these are just machines...every machine does its thing...and I sometimes like to try push people to open their minds and try some of the different machines ...As sometimes I think some guys like to force themselves into a very narrow niche that can really limit the amount of enjoyment they could get from the hobby. Its amazing but there are very few RC vehicles that I don't enjoy.... even my slowest most basic models can be a pile of fun to use if used in the correct context.... I don't take my 15 MPH 2S Lipo boat to the lake as its too slow....however in my moms pool its a pile of fun...especially chasing my brother and nephew LOL ! ...I apply this mentality to all the machines, and i tend to choose to run certain machines for doing certain things........ if I am going to a car show, local park, front street, backlane, skate park I will probably take a MT...probably a beefed up Savage if I had my choice..... However if I am looking to pound dirt hills, rough terrain at high speeds, climbing steep sand hills, big air jumps, run on a track I will take a Truggy..... I will also take a truggy to allow my dog to chase..... LOL

Anyways to a old timer like me all these cars are cool... I just wish more of you guys were more open minded to the different styles of machines....

Yep, I've been expanding my collection. I started with a variety of Monsters, then boats, 5th scale, micros, minis, truggys, stadium trucks etc.

Like Neal I watched the truggy evolution. I credit guys like Chris (CRSMP5 Truggy Racers) for inventing the market. He was the first that I know of to convert a Savage into a truggy.

Neal, do you have a MT class at your track? Here we have just a "1/8 Truck" class, but of course it's 100% truggies (I swear one day I'll enter my Savage--ha ha). Do you see much of a demand for it at your place? I'm going to propose this class to a new track opening near my house. I don't know what would technically delineate an MT from a truggy, however. i.e. is it ride height, track width/wheel base ....?

unfortunately we don't have any MT class at our track.... However we do allow the MT guys to come out and run on the track on practice nights...if enough showed interest we would happily run a MT class..... We do get some MT guys show up from time to time..but out track is usually a little too challenging for MT's to be much fun......guys end up breaking very fast and get discouraged.....

You need to take the entire gear box out. That's not a bad thing anyway. The thing about the Savage, the design is beautifully simplistic, so it's a quick, easy tear down/rebuild. It's not intuitive at first, but if I can get it anyone can. ;-) Let us know if you need help but that is the only way.

Don't mean to sound like a jerk but after 6-10 years in this hobby this should be easy for you.

fair point after 2 weeks of owning my savage i learned how to get everything out quickly and easily

to get my tranny out i pull the side chassis plate off and remove the engine plate and tranny at once while the engine is still mounted takes less than 5 minutes ( and thats with disconnecting and reconnecting the reverse linkage )

I prefer the TVP after running truggies and buggies and some on road cars

atho for a truggy or on road car pan/flat chassis all the way but for a MT i prefer a TVP chassis purely for more strength and rigidity

a MT with a pan or flat chassis just looks like a jacked up truggy to me

You're absolutely right. I tried to do it in 5 minutes before I had to leave for an appointment. Next time I'll allot more time for it lol
