RC Driving Style
Well I'm allready in my gonna get me alot of Robinson Racing stuff buying frenzy.

What, if any, benefits will I get from their Vented Flywheel. Is it just a PR thing or will it actually help me some in cooling the engine. I can't quite figure out how it will assist in doing that. Or will it just be a few degrees F. ??

I like the design though, but if it's just simply not needed then why go buy it. I'll just buy some other hop-up for the money :-D

Perhaps it's better quality than stock ?

Please help me out here...
 
I have a stock traxxas flywheel that's survived 2 engines (.15 pro and hyper .21), 7 clutches and is still running strong. I have never found a need for a vented flywheel. I can think of better things to spend my money on than a vented flywheel.
 
i agree with el pirata - the only benifits the vented flywheels give - is due to their smaller size - an increase in acceleration. but it is almost unnoticeable. plus - due to less rolling mass, they cause the engine not to idle as well. avoid it - waste of money, unless u are just getting it for asthetic purposes.

Sorry NA, but that is quite untrue. I have the RRP vented flywheel on the OS in one of my Ts, and I have NO problems at all with the idle. I can't really tell you how much of a difference the flywheel actually made as I added quite a few engine hop ups all at once, so I am not sure exactly how much any individual item helped, but after they were all added it ran like a raped ape.
 
sorry NC - i was basing this info on my 1:1 scale knowlege. a heavier flywheel creates more rotating mass, therby causing a smoother idle. smaller flywheel = more acceleration, but more loping at idle. guess the diff is nill, or non-existant on 1:10 scale mills. sorry.
 
No prob at all man, just thought I would mention it since I am running one with no idle problems. I wish now I had done the engine hop ups one at a time so I could have seen the actual benefits or losses with each one. I am very happy with the setup I have now but it would have been nice to know anyway.
 
I have to concur with NC on this. I run one on my Fantom in my T-Maxx, and it does not hamper the performance in any way.
 
I can say the same thing...no obviously noticeable increase in performance.

At one time, I might have answered that the way the vents are cut you would get some increased airflow over the engine. This airflow would be generated similar to a fan, but from my own experiences and looking at it more closely...I can't make that arguement stick.
 
Thank you all for answering. I think I'll hold back my cash on this item then.

I'll spend them on metal gears in the tranny instead perhaps.
 
overall it only makes a slight difference, the idea behind it is less rotational mass for the engine to spin. That with a combination of many other lightened parts will contribute to overall performance in the long run, yes it may be slight, but in my book every little bit counts...........at least thats what my old lady tells me..............
 
Hunchback? Where did that come from. I have earned 2 new names today I guess, Hunchback and HummerBlazer. Frankly I am disapointed in the creativity factor, but thanks for the up on my picture skillz.
 
the flywheel should be used in conjunction with other parts? a single performance upgrade alone is hard to tell a differance no mater what it is, take a real car if you add just a K&N filter youll probably not notice a differance,but if you add a performance exhaust and some underdrive pullies thats where every little bit will show the differance,each mod alone wouldnt show a big gain,but combined is where youll see the increase!!!

Dude, you are confusing the fellas...NoviceRob was the guy who used the Hunchback image in his signature...not Blazer. The guy in Blazer's new sig is NoviceRob...the "Hunchback".

Well if he used it first then I guess I'll have to think of some other new name for humboldtblazer. How's Buttercup sound? It does have a nice ring to it... :D
