Guy local has one for sale with some spare parts for $100. Tell me why I shouldn't but it.

So I bought it.
Came with some spare parts, rear shock tower, battery tray, steering bellcrank, hardware set, pinion, diff set and some knock off Tamiya Rally block tires on the cheap Chinese wheels.

It makes a weird noise when I roll the wheels, I do know the pinion is toast, old owner stuck a brass pinion on it with a Hot Racing steel spur, so I'm hoping that is the noise. Gonna go eat lunch then I'll let the teardown begin.

All taken apart and ready to get put back together.
Only thing missing is the interior panel with the driver, not a huge deal. The bearings will need to be replaced at some point but they will work for now. And idk about the motor, it sounded a bit gritty when I spun it by hand.

Nice slick. Looks like it’s gonna be a fun little car????
Right I want to try and find some of the knockoff HPI Pirelli T Rally tires, wish I could get some real ones but since HPI filed for chapter 11 they discontinued all the cool stuff they used to have. The knockoff Tamiya Rally blocks will be fine for now.
Lol first hit on ebay, even shipped from the US. https://www.ebay.com/itm/4-PCS-Rubb...333298&hash=item35e003e15b:g:ywwAAOxyOlhSyVP-

How does this even happen?
3 out of 4 shocks are the same size........

Just waiting on the front and rear cvds, I want the other Vaterra upgrade parts but they are way overpriced. I found the front caster blocks for $42, the front and rear suspension mounts are $27 a pair, $18 for the aluminum hexes and I can't find the front spindles anywhere.

I totally forgot to update this thread.

Some new wheels and tires.

Then got rid of the stock motor because the bearings were shot and replaced the stock esc. I put in a new 2440 4600kv Surpass Hobby motor and Hobbywing Quicrun 16BL30 esc.

Awesome! If I wanted to upgrade the gears for more speed what tooth pinion and spur do you recommend?

Are you trying to make a speed run car or just get some more speed? Speed run car not sure to be honest but you would probably want to look into the Merv spur mod for the Mini 8ight. I am running a 56t 48p spur with a 15t 48p pinion on mine and I find it plenty fast enough for the track I run on, I can only maybe get to 70% throttle even down the straight, only downside is the 56t 48p spur is no longer available :( But the Hot Racing 60t mod 0.5 is about the same size as the 56t 48p spur so a 16t mod 0.5 pinion with the 60T Hot Racing spur would put you at about 30mph on 2s.
The stock motor uses a 2mm shaft and Robinson Racing are the only ones I know of that make 2mm 0.5 mod hardened steel pinions http://www.robinsonracing.com/catalog/2mm_pinion.html#.5-mod
I have not been able to find any 2mm shaft 48p hardened steel pinions as of yet and all of the 1/8 to 2mm pinion adapters look to be sold out
All I can find are brass or aluminum and you don't want either of those.

Diff gear ratio is 2.6:1
Transmission gear ratio is 1
Extra gear ratio is 1
Stock tires and the T Rally tires are ~2.65" in diameter.

Hey slick2500 I wanted to show you what I scored today. Trx4 defender with brass upgrades and traxxas chargers and tons of extra parts. A tmaxx gasoline with the big 5.5 motor and a gasoline boat and tons of extra parts. I got all that’s in the picture except my lil desert truck to the left of the tmaxx. I’ve been cleaning the trx4 up I love it

The trx4 is only 1 and half months old and the tmaxx has tons of aluminum upgrades. I got all this for $500 and I feel like I stole it for that price. I will have to learn to work on those but my dad is genius with gas engines so I should be fine. ?
