Whats up. I'm in the process of a serious overhull on my savage 25. I've added the HPI heavy duty air cleaner, 40 series prolines with BigJoes, fuel filter, HB CVD's, 4 spider mod, alm bulkheads, alm upper and lower control arms,knuckles and c hubs. I also modified my throttle/brake linkage. While i have this thing torn apart I would like to upgrade my steering servo and add the OFNA MP Servo Saver. Is the Hitec HS-645mg metal geared servo the way to go? Will I have to change crystals or mess with my reciever? I'm not to bright when it comes to the radio aspect of RC. Please point me in the right direction. I'm willing to spend about 60-80 bucks on the upgraded servo. any suggestions? Thanks guys.

The 645mg will work fine. You will not have to change crystals. The only thing you will need to do to your receiver is unplug the old servo and plug the new one in. :)

Changing the servo is pretty much unplugging the old and plugging in the new.

Alright, thats good news for me. Will adding this servo make a noticable difference in my steering? Is there any real noticable difference between this servo and say...the 100$ ones out there?

I agree the 645 is an excellent choice for a monster truck and especially the mighty Savage. If you want a really bad ass servo I'd opt for the Digital version the 5645-MG. Some would say that the 5645 is "overkill" but I Say bullchit as what's overkill when your driving around 12+ pounds of plastic and metal @ 30+ MPH! You need as much steering and holding power as possible and especially with large tires and wheels. You can run digital servos with standard "dry cells" (AA's etc) but I wouldn't reco it as DIgital servos like to suck power.

To answer your other questions. Yes the 645 and especially the 5645 will make a very noticable difference in general steering and especially tire "holding" power and general control. You'll thank yourself for adding a good steering servo. NO, I wouldn't reco that you spend $70-100+ dollars on a servo that might not make any noticable difference in steering with even the biggest tires.

Peace

"Reco" = recommend.

I've got the MP servo saver set-up and the Hitec 5645-MG servo.

This baby will steer I'm here to tell ya. I highly recommend this set-up.

I just bought a hopped up Savage with a hitec 645 steering and stock throttle servo. I have two digital servos(5645-MG and 5625-MG) in my Hyper 7 buggy with probably more power then I need.
I might throw the digitals in the Savage and throw the non-digital 645 in the buggy for the steering and I also have a JR570 laying around which I think should be perfect for my buggies throttle.
I plan on a future Truckzilla upgrade once I burn up the HPI 25 motor.
What do you guys think about the servo switch?

I think------>:thumbup:

Just make sure you have a good receiver pack because those Digi's will suck some power.

I'm also using the hitec 645mg steering servo and just ordered the ofna hd servo saver in purple to replace the stock hpi unit. I'm hopeful that more tq will make it to the steering mechanism than with the stock saver.

HS-645MG High-Torque Servo
Product # 32645 $39.99
Universal Heavy Duty Servo Saver
Product # 124SS $6.95

Will these both work with the savage? I'm not 2 hop 2 go for custom applications and custom works...

SHK, not familiar with the particular Servo Saver you listed, but the servo listed will definitely work.

I run with a Kimbrough heavy duty servo saver and it works just fine. I imagine that the one you listed will work just fine also.

Yes get the 645 it is alot of bang for the buck. Only $40. I have one on my buggy and if i am driving on the street i can powerslide if i am going full throttle and turn with ease.

savagesquirrel,

Just a recommendation. When you are going to push a product, saying that it is "way better" is nice. What would make your recommendation even better would be some infromation that supports why it is way better. For instance, which servo by Airtronics, what are some of the specs for that particular servo, pricetag is always nice, etc.

The HiTec digital servos that I typically volunteer as replacement servos when people ask are pretty darn powerful and I use them in all of my rides. They two I choose to use are the HS-5645MG for steering and the HS-5625MG for brake and throttle duty. Together the combined cost will run between $90 and $120 dollars shipped (depending on who you buy them from).

For details on the two servos listed click the links below:
HS-5625MG and HS-5645MG

I'm not saying that they are better than the rest nor am I trying to compare them with any particular product, BUT I am at least backing up what I am saying.

Just some food for thought.

wow I'm full i'll go with the hs 645mg sounds good and wats even better my lhs got them for 33 dollars :sniper:

On my SS I will be using an Airtronics 94358Z for steering duty and a Hitec 925MGS for the throttle/brake.

The 94358Z may not be cheap at $100. But I have one on my T-Maxx and like it alot. It holds the front wheels in a turn without a hint of deflection no matter what the situation. It has a good combo of power (200oz of torque) and speed (.10sec 60 deg at 6V).

As far as the 925MGS, this will be my first experience with a Hitec. Looks good on paper though. Traded some wheels and tires for it.
