Props to Jay Leno...

Jay Leno wrote this; it's the Jay Leno we don't often see...

"The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and
came across some poll data I found rather hard to believe.
It must be true given the source, right?

The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of
Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed and
69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of
the president. In essence 2/3s of the citizenry just ain't happy
and want a change.

So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started
thinking, ''What we are so unhappy about?''

Is it that we have electricity and running water 24
hours a day, 7 days a week? Is our unhappiness the result of
having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the
winter? Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job?
Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time
and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?

Maybe it is the ability to drive from the Pacific Ocean to the
Atlantic Ocean without having to present
identification papers as we move through each state? Or possibly the
hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can
provide temporary shelter?

I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying
cuisine from around the world is just not good enough. Or could
it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and
provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to
take you to the hospital.

Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans
who own a home. You may be upset with knowing that in the
unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will
appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames
thus saving you, your family and your belongings.

Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat
screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer equipped
with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your
family against attack or loss. This all in the backdrop of a
neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the
residents. Neighborhoods where 90 percent of
teenagers own cell phones and computers.

How about the complete religious, social and
political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world?
Maybe that is what has 67 percent of you folks unhappy.

Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful,
spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves
the U.S. yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see
us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do
nothing but complain about what we don't have, and what we hate about
the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here.

I know, I know. What about the president who took
us into war and has no plan to get us out? The president who
has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same
president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11?
The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession?
Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book
for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful
brats safe from terrorist attacks?

The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that
is out there defending you and me? Did you hear how bad the
President is on the news or talk show? Did this news affect you so
much, make you so unhappy you couldn't take a look around for
yourself and see all the good things and be glad?

Think about it......are you upset at the Preside nt
because he actually caused you personal pain OR is it because
the "Media" told you he was failing to kiss your sorry
ungrateful behind every day.

Make no mistake about it. The troops in Iraq and
Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may
have died for your freedom. There is currently no draft in this
country. They didn't have to go.
They are able to refuse to go and end up with either
a ''general'' discharge, an ''other than honorable''
discharge or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable'' discharge
after a few days in the brig.

So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds
of 69 percent of Americans? Say what you want but I blame
it on the media. If it bleeds it leads and they specialize in
bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and
guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner?
The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations.
They offer what sells , and when criticized, try to defend
their actions by "justifying" them in one way or another. Just ask
why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a
book about how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did he would have
done it this way......INSANE!!!!

Stop buying the negativism you are fed everyday by the media
Shut off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for
the bottom of your bird cage. Then start being grateful for all
we have as a country. There is exponentially more good than bad.

We are among the most blessed people on Earth and
should thank God several times a day, or at least be thankful and
appreciative."

"With hurricanes, tornado's, fires out of control, mud slides,
flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one
end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist
attacks, "Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the
Pledge of Allegiance?"

Jay Leno

+1 for Jay......except our current president is still a bumbling idiot........but I am thankful we get to elect one.....sort of...;)

Amen brotha Jay!! Bit long of a rant, but it's accurate and to the point.

Great find, ImBroken..

Tell it, Jay. Gotta' love that man. Gotta' agree with him also.
We really are a bunch of crybaby wimps because we can have anything we want, and because of it, we become jaded. We're spoiled little brats.

A lifetime ago, before computers, color TV and air conditioners, we were happy Americans looking towards a VERY bright future.
We seem to have gotten lost somewhere along that path, and that's sad indeed.

We are complacent. We want instant gradification. Its sad. I am lumped into this now. We all complain if the internet is down for a few hours. We have the WORLD at or fingertips at a moments notice.

Though I totally agree with the sentiment voiced in that "essay," I gotta say . . . s'nope. The original author is not Jay Leno.

Jay Leno is another well groomed Hollywood product, although I like the personna and LOVE his cars, there is no way on Earth he would risk his career by releasing anything like that to the public. Even if he really felt that way. :D

Amazing, rocknbill. Another urban legend bites the dust on the internet.

Now there's ANOTHER reason for us to be unhappy.

LOL...the funny thing about the rant above is that it talks about 65-70% of the country being unhappy about the leadership of this country...yet how many of those people showed up at the polls to cast their vote for change...

The one beautiful thing about this great nation is that we have the power as a people to make change...we just need to get up off of our pampered, lazy, whiny asses to do so...and guess what, there will still be a majority of Americans who do not vote in the coming election despite the fact that they are unhappy with conditions in this country and the man they love to blame for getting us there.

I am thinking that every American should be given the opportunity to take a free trip to where-ever they feel the grass is greener and told to stay there. I have been around the world as both the son of a serviceman in my youth and as a servicemember as an adult. AND believe me...we have it far better than the runner's up and beyond words better than those at the bottom of the list.

...yet how many of those people showed up at the polls to cast their vote for change..

I did, I did. And we made a change. Even the intense storm on that day didn't keep me from casting my vote.

Stop complaining. We're in America. Where else would you rather be?
We complain because we have our constitutional rights that allow it. If we didn't, we would hate the way we had to live, and there would be nothing we could say about it. Don't like it? Then either change it or live with it.
There's also a very good reason that we have Thanksgiving day in America.

If you don't vote, you don't get the right to complain about the leadership of the country. That's how I see it.

i ll buy that Jay Leno wrote that. hes a very politicaly astute person, but also very well aware of were he stands in the holleywood world.

he can pretty much say what he wants with little to no repocussions.

I voted but not for hte loser or the jackass that became president.

ANYONE That believes Bush is even a adequate pres need to be burried up to their necks in honey and released in a swarm of fireants!

now mind you i didnt want gore for a president either, but McCain would of been fine.

but i do agree, WAY TO many whine asses, and fatass lazy bon bon eating mofos who really make the rest of us look way bad in the rest of the worlds eyes. and while i would not want to live anywhere else (except maybe Amsterdam for the obvious reasons), i believe we as a nation, need to pull our heads out of other countrys asses, and get our country straightened out first. While this IS the best country to live in, if jackholes like bush keep getting into office, we ll be no better than korea, cuba or taiwan before we know it. you can't help others if you can't help yourself.

and in the us, WE NEED TO FIX OUR poop, b4 we can go on to fix the worlds poop.

the middle east fiaskle is a perfect example. those people have been fighting since befor the coming of christ. and that only made it worse and set the human race back thousands of yrs ( another reason i think religeon should be a exicutable offense), and bush thinks he can have a volenteer army and a shitload of reserve people stop 2 thousands yrs of termoil? and some people think this president is USEFULL?????

Jay Leno
Life will always be a challenge. Nothing is ever completely free. If we live it with dignity, tolerance, random acts of kindness and hard work it can be good. I wake up everg morning and ask myself what good can I do, who can I help today. American ? I bleed RED-WHITE-BLUE. There is a Flag flying by my front door. My Father landed at Normandy in '44. See Vets walking down the street ? ALL Vets; especially if they fought in WW2. I turned down a $90,000 / year research job to make a difference as a community school teacher. All our "difficulties" and sources for concern pale compared to what the Ukranians are suffering with today.

Agree. 🖒

Our Presidents are nothing more than a pawn ,congress runs the show in which neither of them is going
to make your life any easier out in the real world!
As a citizen ,we have to deal with street thugs ,gangs ,criminals an police brutality & tyrants!
Its those people alike that runs the show out in cities an wot not ,also cities officials are vampires
that will suck you dry ,so are President & congress people & even the govenor does not run the show ,
it is the Mayor's ,judges ,DA's ,police an the lower common street thugs an gangs in which the police
will not mess with or hassle with!.. :thumbs-up:

That is why most people are for gun rights because the system is not going to protect you an why
there is so much chaos & protesting!
