i know your supposed to charge a new 5 cell battery pack like 14hrs for the first charge but i had to leave for work at 7am and at that time it was only at 12.5 hours. Thats not gonna hurt the life of the battery will it?

NiMH? I don't think it will hurt but it won't be fully charged. Depends on the charge rate of your trickle charger. You don't have to worry about the battery building a memory at any rate...
If it were me I would invest in a cheap peak detecting charger. Charge 'er at 2 amps (one is better) and it will only take you a half hour or so.

yeah its nimh 1200mah and its 100mah charger so its supposed to take 12 to fully charge and 14 for the first charge. and charging time doesn't really matter to me because i barely get to drive it because of the short days and my work.
I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't build a memory like you said.
one question though.. does that mean i need to charge it more than 12 hrs next time or what? :\

That is the hard part, my friend--figuring out how much the battery has discharged and how much to charge it. Obviously 1200 mAh capacity batteries that are fully discharged should be fully charged after 12 hours at 100 mAh per hour charger output rate. But what if the battery has SOME juice left in it?
Three options: 1) Fully discharge your batteries with a discharger. 2) Use a multi-meter to determine how much of a charge the batteries have then charge accordingly to get to 1200 mAh. 3) Get an inexpensive peak detecting charger. They start at around $29.95 and take all the guess work out of the equation.
