I'm in the process of getting some money by selling some old rc's and was thinking of buying a set of graphite or caron fiber TVPs. First off is their a difference between graphite and CF?? and second is it worth the money?? Should I invest it on something else?? Thanks for the help

I've used Vertigo Performance CF TVPs and they haven't failed me yet. They cost more but don't bend like the stock TVPs. Do you mostly bash or race?

Just bash but would like tom some day race maybe. Are there any advantages for upgrading?? Any of them noticeable??

well by changing to the graphite or carbon fiber you will lose weight.plus it will make it more rigid.which will reduce flex

I like the LCG/EXT TVP's that i have on my savage. (Made by Twisted Toys)

If you like them PM me and i will tell you how to get them for your savy.

The weight difference stock TVPs and CF TVPs is negligible. When I weighed them the CF saved about a 1/2 ounce IIRC. Carbon fiber is stiff and is more resistant to bending than aluminum but it can snap. Depending on which side of the pond your on, bending can be better than snapping. You snap a TVP and your day is over.

Nowadays I run the Twisted Toys .5" LCG TVP because I started going to the track. They weigh a little more than the CF VP TVPs but they are just as stiff. I'm sure for bashing they would be fine. They make working on the truck slightly more difficult since half the engine screws are no longer reachable. You will have to pull the rear end off to remove your engine.

I should add a disclaimer, when I ran the VP CF TVPs I also ran the RCS cage which I assume helped keep them from splintering. When I first had the RCS cage I would still bend stock TVPs. I have never run the VP CF TVPs without a cage, so your results may vary. I no longer run the RCS cage because I'm trying to keep my weight as low as possible, and the added length of the TTs TVPs will not work with the cage.

So for strictly bashing I would go for CF TVPs in stock length with cage. The stock wheelbase makes doing jumps and backflips easier. For racing I'd go with a lighter set-up, no cage and slightly longer TVPs for stability. If you have the bucks, Vertigo makes a sweet set of LCG extended CF TVPs but they cost over $130.

savage18SS, I see you are in San Jose which is also where I'm at. Shoot me a pm and we can hook up, I'll show you a set of the CF VP TVPs in person and see if they are right for you.

SD, You can drill out the bottom skid plate so that the holes are centered over the motor mount screws. I eyed balled them and came really close. Sure made a world of difference. Now theres no more removing the whole rear just to get to the motor.

I've got the hpi set and i bash in my yard. i love mine.

only problems was i had to do some sanding to the tvp's to make them fit properly but other than that, I've had em for a year and nothings broken. and I'm 99% sure graphite and CF are the same.

and it also looks awesome

I am pretty much just planning on keeping mine stock. Being that you can get a pair of stock NIB tvp's for $10. If something happens to only one of the tvp's that u buy, i think you have to buy another pair. thats just my :2cents:

It's not just the $10, factor in time to run to the hobby shop or time to wait for them to come in the mail and it's more than just $10.

Which version of the TT TVPs do you have? On the .5" extended plates the lower chassis brace is directly underneath the rear holes of the engine mount.

I have the 1" ext. The chassis brace, if i recall correctly, isnt in the way but the rear holes are hidden behind the skid plate.

I bet you could drill through the brace to allow access to the screws? It would be worth a shot at it.

I checked it out this morning and the brace is directly over those two screws. I'm using the aluminum chassis braces and would rather not drill through them. It would defeat the purpose of the brace.

Also..if you did drill them...i think that may interfere with the side screws that secure the braces to the tvp's.

I've got a set of the Hardcore Racing titanium ones, nut haven't installed them yet...

Waiting for the next tear down or engine swap to install 'em...

Thanks for teh help guys t really helped.

Sweetdiesel what city do you live in?? Do you bash or race during winter??

Personally I think that the right TVPs is the best hop up you can do for our savage... but I am byast... LOL

Savage18ss... You should come out with us on a bash.. Me and sweetdiesel meet up sometimes for bashin.. and I sometimes get a few bay area folks together for a bash session...

Dom.. The .5" ext TVPs happen to put the cross brace right under the back engine mount bolts.. Kinda puts a few extra steps in when working on the truck.. Of course stock and 1"+ extentions do not have that probem. If you wanna swap for a different length just let me know...

I would definatly want to get in on some action when you guys meet up. Just let me no when the next get together is so I can join in on the fun.

Um, OK, let me decipher that...

Sell them now because they bend so easily. They are not worth the money, so sell them now while they are new!

IS that what you're trying to say? LOL....

I got them free, so they cost me nothing. I also got a set of the new flamed TVPs from HPI. I'll put the flamed ones on when I put my 4.6/3-speed combo in to dress the truck up.

I'll hold on to the HCR TVPs for an emergency or for some barter action when I need it.

Thanks...
