The weight difference stock TVPs and CF TVPs is negligible. When I weighed them the CF saved about a 1/2 ounce IIRC. Carbon fiber is stiff and is more resistant to bending than aluminum but it can snap. Depending on which side of the pond your on, bending can be better than snapping. You snap a TVP and your day is over.
Nowadays I run the Twisted Toys .5" LCG TVP because I started going to the track. They weigh a little more than the CF VP TVPs but they are just as stiff. I'm sure for bashing they would be fine. They make working on the truck slightly more difficult since half the engine screws are no longer reachable. You will have to pull the rear end off to remove your engine.
I should add a disclaimer, when I ran the VP CF TVPs I also ran the RCS cage which I assume helped keep them from splintering. When I first had the RCS cage I would still bend stock TVPs. I have never run the VP CF TVPs without a cage, so your results may vary. I no longer run the RCS cage because I'm trying to keep my weight as low as possible, and the added length of the TTs TVPs will not work with the cage.
So for strictly bashing I would go for CF TVPs in stock length with cage. The stock wheelbase makes doing jumps and backflips easier. For racing I'd go with a lighter set-up, no cage and slightly longer TVPs for stability. If you have the bucks, Vertigo makes a sweet set of LCG extended CF TVPs but they cost over $130.
savage18SS, I see you are in San Jose which is also where I'm at. Shoot me a pm and we can hook up, I'll show you a set of the CF VP TVPs in person and see if they are right for you.
