RC Driving Style
Well after buying new batteries that put a huge dent in my wallet, I've decided to make my truck run on rechargables which would be! So I did some research on TH and this is what i found:
Will these work for my standard equipment on my savage?
I was hoping there was a built in charger for the standard TF-4 radio but there seems to be none. Here are the items I'm hoping to get. Will these work?
Transmitter Battery Set
Receiver Hump Pack
Receiver/Transmitter Charger
 
the charger and rcv pack are exactly what i use and they both work great! the xmttr batts will cause i problem i think though. does your xmttr have a charging jack in it? if not, then that charger wont work. also keep in mind that the original alkalines in your tx produced 12v, and if u replace them with those - it will only produce 9.6v this will adversly affect your range, as well as increase battery drain. what xmmtr are u using?
 
Stock one. Can you find me some transmitter rechargables that would work. BTW: Savage owners or anyone will the hump back fit in the regular receiver battery pack spot? If not ill zip-tie it to something.
 
I'm not a savage owner - but the trinity hump pack is actually smaller than a 4cell rcvr pack, so i am sure it will fit. u cannot find rechargable batteries that will equal alkalines. that is why there are 5 batts in the trinity pack. an alkaline AA has 1.5v - a nicad or nimh has only 1.2v
 
I installed a charging jack in the stock savage TX and eight sanyo 700mAh NiCd batteries. I tested the TX, it work for 4 hrs straight (with the truck running). I also installed a hump pack ofna 1200mah NiMH and a charging jack.
 
I am a little confused on how that charger will be able to connect to the hump pack. Does the charger come with a female adapter that will connect to the hump pack? Do you think you could post a better pic than the pic that Tower has?

EDIT: Also how can that charger work for a Ni-Mh hump pack? Going from the picture it shows its a Ni-Cd charger.

the Receiver/Transmitter Charger will not work with the reciever hump pack. you need a nimh charger. I use the ofna p/n 10214 $7.95 and it charges my hump pack in 4 hrs.

this seems a bit far fetched for me, as my 3D FM uses 1100ma cells, and has 10 of them and still will only work for about 2 hours. 4 hours of constant running, that would be about 22 tanks of fuel. thats alot of running, i dont think my rc's would run non stop for 4 hours without something breaking.

this is wrong - that charger will work with a nimh pack because i use it for all 4 of mine. along with that nimh batts can be charged on a nicad charger as long as it is a non-peak charger such as the one u are looking at. trickle chargers are not suceptable to the false peak radings that nimh batts wil give.

this charger comes with two plug ins, one for the tx, and one for the rx, the rx wire from the charger has a plug that attaches directly to the rx pack. please see above for the reasons why u can use this charger with nimh packs also
 
Yeah I caught that after I posted NA. I would still be a little nervous about using a charger that is not designed for Ni-Mh packs. I need to do a little more digging around to see if I could use something like this with my XS3. I purchased some double A Ni-Mh batts from Eddy that I am currently using for my tx. I have a nice charger but it only charges 4 at a time. But it does it in 2 hours. Using that charger it takes you the entire night to charge both the tx and rx? I assume you can run a whole day without any problems?

the charger that you are using for your nimh
Output Tx: 10.8V DC, 55mA
Output Rx: 4.8V DC, 55mA
your hump pack has 5 cells = 6.0V the charger has Output Rx: 4.8V DC, 55mA. you are not getting a full charge.

u r right but it is weird. i use that charger(it came with my radio) and the voltage indicator on my TX and the one in my NTC3 for my RX both read the correct voltages (11.9v and 6v). i dunno.

you have the volts but not the amps wich means that it takes longer to charge the nimh. about 24 hrs to get a full charge.

that makes sense, although i doubt 24, iu usually charge mine for about 12-16
