As the title states, I'm wondering about the turning radius on my XL. I realize it's a big-ass truck, and it needs lots of room, but sometimes I'd swear my '04 Suburban could u-turn tighter! I'm running a savox 1256tg servo with an aluminum arm, and have set my endpoints as far as they'll go. Is there any kind of mod/aftermarket part for the linkage or something?

Ya, controlling an XL is like driving a long wheel base vehicle, I've already tried the X vs XL comparison .

XL) more forgiving over bumps. Needs more room to turn. Won't wheelie as easy.

X) less forgive (bumps). Tighter turning radius. Wheelies on command...most times..?

I just roast the tires when I wanna turn my XL.

Yeah, fair enough...I usually just end up using the throttle to turn as well :D This is my first savvy, and I haven't driven an X yet.

My X is my favorite truck by far. Never driven an XL but I want one for sure. My X has made an HPI fan out of me.

The X is a good truck I have 2 but I find that my XL fly's better:) , as for your turning wide look into to a HD servo saver spring

Oh yeah...thanks for reminding me! I ordered one of those a couple weeks ago at my LHS. Forgot about that. :ahem: The bearing upgrade for the steering, worthwhile?

I did the bearing upgrade in mine to help get a little slop out , was worth doing

Lower ride height, lay down shocks, decrease rear toe in and increase the front, 1mm sway bar and hard springs in the rear. This the setup I use when wanting my X to turn sharply at high speeds. It would not hurt to try on the XL....

I got rid of all the slop by putting on the HD rod ends. I was pleasantly surprised as that was not why I got them, but it fixed it. Slop can be hard to get rid of sometimes. Ugh. What is the bearing upgrade...or is it only for XL?

2 options. you can do a bit of shaving on the backside of the axle carrier, remove the factory stops and get a little more turn. or you could switch to aluminum axle carriers. the aluminum will give you better turning radius than shaving off the stops on the plastic

Yeah, I had a Savage X for almost 3yrs now and still strong and I love it and had some modification on it. Last 2 days I got a used Savage XL, removed the engine and I will put a LRP 30 nitro engine. Let's see the difference.

Excellent....some good info here. I think I'll try shaving on some plastic before I invest in aluminum bits. Thanks everyone!! :sign_thankyou:

I just got big tires.

If u have an x n want an xl the best thing to do is buy the xl chassis conversion from dollarhobbyz.com comes with tvps engine plate n drive shaft. Thatll give u a 2 spd xl in my opion i like the 2 spd better n if u get that xl chassis conversion itll only cost like $40 compared to buyin a whole xl that is $600
