I bought a Turnigy 80a ESC with a 4000kv Trackstar motor put it on my SC10 and loved it! I'm thinking about putting a 5200kv TrackStar motor and same ESC on my SC10 taking the other and put it on my Stampede. Good idea bad idea? I wanted a bit more speed, and I will change gearing for it. What do you guys think of Turnigy?

Their stuff is OK, but a little bit more gets you Hobbywing or Castle. Personally, I'm a big fan of HW.

Been using Turnigy stuff for a while on Heli's, and I use their Turnigy 3xs or whatever transmitter for my buggy. Whether it be batteries, heli motors, or ESC's I've never had an issue.

I didn't know much about Hobbywing, so I assumed there stuff wasn't that great. And I have always wanted a Castle but the difference is $230 apposed to $80.

You know what they say about assuming....;)

HW is the OEM maker for a number of brands, and my experience is that you really can't beat their product short of top end stuff like Tekin. HW ESCs are also the only ones that I haven't fried out of a dozen different makes, including LRP, Associated & Novak.

A little lower than the KV rating you were looking at, but a good deal:

(the picture in the ad is not the #3656 motor; that is the 4274 1/8 scale can in the pic)

And I have always wanted a Castle but the difference is $230 apposed to $80.

CC ain't all they're cracked up to be, IME. I would take HW over CC any day. CC stuff is jerky/coggy at lower speeds, and they like to eat capacitors. The only CC I know of that's $240 is the MMP 1/8 system; I'd just save a little longer and buy Tekin combo for $310. But you do not need 1/8 scale power in a 2WD 1/10 SCT, would just be adding weight and asking a lot of the motor mount.

You have to remember that most of the earlier Castle Creations stuff was sensorless which was prone to cogging; the newer 1/10th scale stuff will run sensored and sensorless as well. I've been running CC ESCs and motors for many years and NEVER had a problem with it.

I know, and I have not played with one of their sensored systems. Still, the CC sensorless systems cog worse than any other mid-tier system I've ever tried. Sidewinders simply don't go at all below a certain speed, usually 4 or 5 MPH with moderate gearing.

Not saying CC is junk, just that I haven't been particularly impressed with them at their price point. Again, the MMP system is almost as much as a Tekin RX8/T8 combo, which is far superior.

I'll concede that the Castle link is cool, but at the same time, I like having a program card that I can take with me to the track and make changes in seconds, or use the TX throttle to make those changes if I forget the programmer (albeit slower to go through each mode that way). Castle link requires a computer, and it takes a little while to boot up and change settings.

CC also offers a field programming card as well that can act as a Castlelink.

The thing about CC non sensored systems is that they need power! If your using the average lipo they will cog at low speed but with a proper pack its close to unnoticeable unless your trying to crawl.

That's correct. CC recommends no less than 40c rated LiPo for their 1/10 and larger ESCs

I can confirm this. I'm using 50c packs and at slow speeds I'm not seeing any issues unless I'm trying to crawl.

I was going to try and quote all of this but gave up, but anyways I have only burnt out a Team Associated I have no clue how. And I have looked at Tekin products they are above my love for CC but even higher out of my price range. Plus I have not gotten my Turnigy ESC and motor "hot" even from trying my best at heating up (considering it is winter) so I am very proud of that. As Sixtysixdeuce said I do not need the 1/8th power on a 2wd, but I do like that ESC and motor form HW.

My plan is to take the current ESC and put it on a slash that I might get I don't know the details about it whether it is 4wd or 2wd, but it is coming with the Velineon motor no ESC, will the Turnigy 80a waterproof run with that will there be any issues? Then putting a higher Kv rated motor on my SC10. I have heard about the 80a running with the 4000Kv motor and zipping around good. Do you guys know the Kv rating on the Velineon motor?

They are 3,500

That combo is a 1/8 ESC, but a 1/10 540 4-pole motor. Would be a good combo for any 1/10 2WD. I am running that exact ESC in my Prolite 4x4, though I'm using it to push an Orion Vortex 2,000 KV 1/8 can on 3S. But the Prolite, like other 4WD SCTs, is pushing 1/8 scale weight; with the 6,600 mAh 3S, it is 6.48 lbs.
