Tuning problems

I'm new to rc cars. i wanted to run my savage today becuase it was semi nice out. i heated the engine with a blow dryer, got it running, tuned it, and had it running perfectly fine. ran inside to grab the body, put the body on..hit the gas and it dies.

Is this the cold? it was 45 today. do i have to tune it as its warming up? my buddys revo ran with no problem..he didnt have to mess with the carb or anything. will it get better when its warm out, i dont want to lose faith in my savage....

Never tune an engine unless it's at operating temp, or as close as it's going to get. Don't worry, your Savage isn't the problem. Sounds like your engine simply loaded up. Gotta give em a few quick blips of throttle to keep them clear sometimes. Especially when it's cold out. If your engine isn't broken in, running in 40 degree weather will be real hard on it.

Did you get it up to full operating temp before you tuned it? Have you had it running before with a good tune on it? Cold weather can and will be more difficult to run in. You need to have the body right there,these engines will cool down too fast at idle in cold temps. The engine was probably too cold by the time you hit the throttle and the extra fuel quenched the glow plug.

well i dont have a temp gun so i couldnt really check it. i ran it up and down the street for a couple minutes fine tuning the carb, then i went inside for a few seconds to get the body. put it on and it dies when i hit the throttle. my buddy didnt even have to touch the carb on his revo...i guess the small blocks are good in the cold??

Put a dab of spit on the head. Should sizzle off in 2-3 seconds at proper operating temp. If it lingers and your getting a ton of smoke, the tune is rich. As long as your getting good speed and the truck shifts into 2nd good, I'd assume that the lsn is rich. Especially if it bogs from take off. No nitros like ambient temps below 55-60 degrees.

yea, my savage does the same thing right now. before it is upto full operating temp it bogs like mad to the point of stalling on takeoff.
