I've been wondering do yuned pipes really do anything for power and speed? or is it just another way to get u too spend money? I recently purchased a tuned pipe for my truck and all it did was made it sound better. Have i wasted 25$ on a tuned pipe or is somthing wrong? if any 1 has any suggestions please write

well $25 isnt a lot, nice pipes, my friend got a tuneable cvec for his t maxx and has nothing but good to say about it

the difference between assorted pipes will have less/greater effect on power output/powerband/fuel economy/sound . i purchased a steel 1/8 fantom torque pipe and although i did not gain any real MPH, i did gain massive torque/hp in the low and mid range. but then agian it was a 70$ pipe so there has to be more R&D in its desighn than the lower priced pipes. if anything at least it made your truck sound better, and I'm sure it helped out in performance jsut not to the point were you can visually see the increase.

to tell you the truth a pipe isnt good if their selling it for $25 I'm not saying to go get an expensive one but still the cheapest pipe i ever saw that was pretty good was like $40 but thats just me

well i jsut orderd a hot bodies pipe for my savage for 26$, as I've heard it has a nice tone. I'm not hoping for any big increase, i jsut can't stand the nasty blat-blattt of the stock composite savage pipe.

i love the savage stock pipe...well i love to see my neighbors reaction at 10 30 on a saturday night or 8 in the morning muaha

This is quite untrue, On my T-Maxx with an OS CVX 15 Hyper, I have a, $11 header and an $18 tuned pipe, and it is one of the best low end combos on the market. If you look at the design of the Fantom pipe mentioned by alkyula, and then the team associated 7731 (I think), which btw came out first, you will see they are nearly identical in size, shape, angle of divergent cone, only the AE is $18, and the Fantom is $70. Yes the Fantom is steel and the AE is aluminum, but this is not what effects performance. So yes, there are good pipes out there for less money.

Maybe the tuned pipe you purchased was not tuned for what you wanted. I.E, high end rpms, or low end grunt. Since the length, angle of the cone, as well as other things affect the performance in different ways, you may have simply got a pipe that was not quite what "tuned" to what you were looking for.

:argue:
Here you go this is a great explenation for everyone.
The cold wars on tuned pipes http://home.comcast.net/~rccarbroken/pipes/
2-stroke engines rely heavilly on backpressure and exhaust pressure waves to enhance specific output at "tuned" engine speed ranges. I got super torque from a $14 super short tube header that got massaged with my dremel. and a $5 very square used pipe I purchased from a freind.

Take it from an engineer just because something cost more and possibly does have more R&D in it doesn't necessarily promise it will preform better/work better. Over developing and over engineering are two things I deal with daily (Unfortunately)
Thanks just my :2cents: worth

yea thats true nc I'm just sayin because I've never seen a pipe for $18 and new that it was any good but yea you are right my bad
