I have had my savage 4.6 for half a year now and i have tryed forever tuning it right with no luck the best i got is it running at about 150 - 170 for half the tank but the second half of the tank it always gets to around 200. i have taken the whole thing apart and tested for leaks and not found any did the whole guide on testing for leaks i changed the fuel lines that didnt work i have tried everything. If i run my engine at that range in temp how much shorter will the life of my engine be i am almost at the point of just running it have fun with it then when i burn the engine out just buy a new one and hope i have better luck with the tuning. any suggestions ?

200 is good man you can't be serious. i get worried at about 270. your motor since its big should like it right about 200-230. i think you have it tuned good. but what temperature is it outside

Well i have put it away all winter because i kinda gave up on it but when i was running it it was like maybe 35C outside. I always thought 170F was max you want the engine

celsius or fahrenhiet. that may be the issue. sorry I'm on fahrenheit

the mill needs to get up to at least 230 or so and mine always ran better about 260. the savage is known to run a little hotter on the lst half of the tank. lean it out a bit man and your gravy!

actually maybe it was 270 i ment and mine was getting to 300 woops my bad like i said its been awhile since i ran it but i remeber it was over what everyone on here was saying was optimum temp so it was probally 300.

yeah now i remeber it would start off at about 240 - 270 then the second half of the tank got to 300

ah then you have issues. 200 isn't bad 300 is in the red zone. What fuel are you running. some fuels are more forgiving than others

i belive it was 20% hpi and i have only ran one gallon through it

some engines like running a little hot but most are good around 260ish. sounds like you need to richen it up just a touch and your good. do you hae good performance otherwise? its not all about temp.

def not all about temp.. recently discovered not all temp probes give accurate readings. work good to compare to their own readings but not necessarily able to be counted on as 100% accurate. especially if your running an onboard loop probe. Tune to performance, if you think it's too hot, cut the windshield a little to allow more air if it's not done already

check your glo plug as well for indicators. is it black and loading up or grey and ashy..

remember, if you are able to fatten up the hsn without loosing performance then do it and the temps will come down. if you fatten up and lose performance, put it back and run it

the performance was really good when the temp was in the 300s

when it was down in the 270 mark it was quite boggy thou

make sure you have the right glow plug my dad bought hot plugs and it went to 320f and wouldent go lower

yeah that helps. you might wanna pick up some cold glow plugs. larger engines don't do too well with hot glow plugs.

well damn i never even thought about that i have only used hot plugs

weird thing is the guy at the hobby shop reccomended them and it was summer wouldnt you normally use cold plugs in the summer ?

no but run at least mediums in the big block. in a mid size motor, hot plugs are for hot out and cold plugs are for cold out. but larger motors cool more so you need a colder plug than a mid size motor

Your temp readings might be off, if your getting good smoke and performance is good run it, have fun! I see too many people worry about the perfect tune and they never have fun.

Watch for good smoke, good performance and do a search for pinch test, it should explain in the tread.

IMO if you get all of those it's time to have fun!

very good points i have been way to anal about wreaking my engine that i havent barley had fun with it. I had one good run were i had fun.... then i got a thermometer it all went downhill from there
