I have a TRX2.5 torn down to the point where the only pieces left in the block are the crank, main bearing, conrod, piston, pin & sleeve.

Is it at this point where the block should be heated so you can push the sleeve out from around the piston?

The piston and conrod can't be removed without pushing out the sleeve, right?

Don't have a 2.5, but I think it's the same as all others. You should be able to remove the sleeve by just removing the head and pulling the sleeve straight up. From there, you can take the conrod off the crank and the conrod/piston will come out. Remove the crank. Then you have to heat the block (remove the carb, too) to remove the bearings.

Like I said, I don't have a 2.5, so if I'm wrong, just ignore me....

I had the mistaken impression that you could remove the piston and conrod without removing the sleeve.

Thanks Candyman!

No problem. Had to tear down a few engines over the last few years. Gets easy after a while....

I didn't have to heat the block to remove the sleeve I used a trick I saw in RCCA awhile ago I slid a couple of zipties into the exaust port and rotated the crank so the piston moved upwards and the zipties pushed the sleeve up to where I could grab it with my fingers.......

I hope you have better luck than I did. I'm not a "mechanic", but I have to fix all of our equipment. Anyhow this was my first teardown (r/c motor)

I heated w/ hair dryer to the point wear it was untouchable by raw hand. Took clothes pin and had to hit w/ pliers to get the sleeve out. The sleeve was extremely tight. (motor had 1 gal. fuel). Well managed to mess up skirt on piston, so oh well.

Anyhow, I pulled motor off of table the other day, just to see if I could do it better this time. Well, same ol'. Sleeve was ext. tight.

But after about 2 teardowns, it became very easy to teardown. Don't know what I did!!!!!!!!

Maxxcrazy, you da man. Didn't even have to heat it.
