Sup guys/gals-

I wouldn't consider myself a total nitro pro but I've been around the block more then once and I've got plenty-o-experience with nitro motors ranging from Cox 0.49's (my first nitro Tourer) when I was a kid to .12's, .15's to big bore 24.7's. Anyway......

I've had my T-maxx for over a month now and while I love it WHEN it's running great the Trx 2.5 is by far the hardest to PROPERLY tune and highest matinence engine I've ever owned.......phuck....I think my Mazda RX-7 rotory with 19lbs of boost was easier to mantain...lol but serious.

Is it just me or is the 2.5 a phucking son of a biach to mantain/tune????

Sorry if this seems like a total rant but I can't be the only experienced nitro dude that feels this way!!!!

Peace

I have the same model NBoy, It's been a decent performer but did take a while to dial in. Not long after a proper break-in and now with a gallon and a half through it, it's a PITA to restart when it's hot. I usually just sit down and have a cigarette while it cools off and then it starts right up. This could be attributed to compression loss. There's at least a couple members on this forum who have had piston/rod/sleeve rebuilds courtesy of Traxxas because of problems they were having.

Whaddu wdavidhicks - I would consider it a great performer for it's dissplacement and at this alltitude when it's tuned PERFECT but it's a bitch to get it perfect. It seems like as part of regular matinence (like air filter) that regardless of climate it loses it's tune every hour or so and I have to keep re-tunning it. I feel sorry for in-experienced 2.5 owners and hope they got a good motor and bought it from a local hobby shop that does free tunning!. As for the heat, that's my other phocking complaint...for it's size this is also the hottest running motor I've ever owned (I wouldn't even run it for more then 1 tank @ lesss then wot when it's 85+ outside). I finally got the "Nova" "heatsink" cooling head that should kick ass and allow me to run it allot more lean (lean=more power and less gas consumption...eh).

As for members on the forum that have had to send motors back to Traxxas for various problems, I'm starting to agree with allot of members in that you either get a lemon of a kick ass motor. My best buddy who's the nitor dude and who got me into Nitro monster truck 4wd bought a 2.5 T-maxx two months before me and he's already had to send it back to Traxxas twice (their turn-around or lacktheirof isn't exactly great either). I guess you either get a great 2.5 that's a bitch to tune or a pos 2.5 that's a bitch to tuen but that's moot if it's a pos...lol. I've run less then a gallon of "top fuel" through mine (9/10 of a gallon more or less) and their also seems to be allot of possible truth to the "opening up" thing as my motor seems to have gotten allot faster since the first 15 tanks!!!!

Peace and wish my T-maxx had a lower matinence and faster "big bore"!!!!

ahhh yes! The good old/new 2.5 tuming mightmare! TRUE! you can read my thread in general about the issues I have had with mine, but I will just say that I can't wait to get this engine tuned right so I can smash the whole damn car in to a brick wall!!!!!!!!!!

Like a lot of people, I'm relatively new to nitro but not to RC cars, scale engines and mechanical principles. (I only own a T-Maxx.) I joined this forum after purchasing the Maxx and had to ask questions similar to yours.

After seeing a recurring trend of posts with this very similar topic I have to think "holy crap... I can't imagine entering this arena with this vehicle knowing nothing." I also have a small sense of relief knowing this vehicle may be much less difficult to work with once a new engine goes in. In my case the entire hobby could be less frustrating.

I am following carefully a thread or two on the Picco Outlaw which seems to have some idiosyncrasies of its own. This new engine is in a box next to me on the table. The Maxx is in pieces.

The 2.5 is a little hard to dial in, but once you get in close, it's just a matter of tweaking for every session. I think one 0of the biggest problems, is when adjusting, use small incriments, and I mean small ( 1/16th")

And this is good for your daily tweaking.
