I have a T-Maxx 2.5 and the Duratrax Flashpoint temp gauge. I was wondering what 'emissivity' setting people use on the gauge to take the temp on the TRX 2.5 engine. As far as I can tell the engine head is sandblasted aluminum. I read the Duratrax manual and it said for that use "21E", so I did, but then I was getting temps around 300F, and I was just idleing!!! That seems a little high and I am suspect that I don't have the setting correct. Anyone?

I use the same temp guage. You need to have it on the default setting of "95E". I know the book says to put it on "21E", but you will get false readings with it.

So try that setting and see what you get. Try to test the temp guage by taking the temp off of something such as a thermometer.

If you don't have a thermometer available, go in the house and point the Flashpoint at the house thermastat (where you turn the AC or Heater off & on). I know it will have a thermometer in it.

So if it's 75 degrees in your house on the thermastat, and you get around 75 on your Duratrax then you know you are in business.

Later....:jet:

But I thought (after reading the instructions) that metals (in this case aluminum) has different emissivity from other materials. I know the default setting of 95 works on a wall, or my hand, etc... but would be wrong for the cooling head. I'll try it out tonight on the 95 setting and see what I get.

I went by the book the first time and changed the setting to match the aluminum cooling head and kept coming up with bad readings.

After I switched it back to the default setting. My readings were fine. Let us know how it turns out after you switch the settings.

Later....:wedgie:

ys put it on the 95E setting thats what i have mine on and works fine also check thetemp pointig at the glowplug not the top of the head
