OK this is only for people that have made trades on RCNT, what is the process that you general go by when swapping for an even trade? DOes one send car and then other, mail the same day, how do you guys do it?

First, check if the person has feedback in the feedback forum. Some people here accept paypal, most don't.

Usually, after a trust has been formed, through communication before an agreement is made ... money is sent first then item is shipped (Money order or check).

When I bought my item from someone here in the forum, he was very informative, well known personally as well as just a member AND he gave his Drivers license # as well as other info. When you send a M.O., make sure to keep the receipt just in case you have to make a claim.

Before anything is done, try to feel the person out. I was almost burned on a starter box from one person, luckily I backed out just in time. Follow your gut. Any grain of doubt, back out of the transaction. That's all I can say. Everything is a risk.

Not to put down some of the members, I'm sure they are honest BUT as a rule of thumb, if it's a younger seller ... I would make sure a phone # is given and the parents are made aware of the sale or trade.

thanks that sounds about right but still leaves me gambling, the drivers license number thing sounds good but theres no way to check to see if thats real or not, and I am doing an even trade so its hard to "wait for money"

also ask if they have heatware or beerology
http://www.heatware.com
and
http://www.beerology.com

if they do trade often on the internet then more than likely they will have ratings there. if they have none there see if they have any e-bay feedback there.

these will not stop fraud from happening, but the more info you have about a person you a trading with the better.

The phone number is VERY important IMO. I got burned on one deal and had no way to contact him. The return mailing address was bunk, the real name was nowhere to be found and it was all my own fault.

A phone call prior and a good discussion is key. If someone is willing to take the time and talk through the whole deal then at least you can feel better about it. Not saying this is the golden key or anything, just a part of it.

I look at internet trading a bit differently.

I look at it as a gamble. If you can't afford to loose it don't do it. If the cards aren't what you thought they were before you see them, to bad. You have to go with you gut feeling. Its all a gamble if you win thats great if not to bad. One persons mint condition is different than another's. I learned this from trading comic books.

With all that said, My belief is that 99% of the trades on this forum are done in good faith. Get as much info on the other person as possible. CALL THEM ON THE PHONE! .03 a minute is a small price to pay. SEND / GET DIGITAL PHOTOS. Make your own decision on the condition of the products.

PayPal is great. 50% down gets the item shipped. the other 50% when its delivered. If you don't like it or its not as described, send it back. split the difference in the shipping with the seller. Its a 2 way street.

Dealing with any trade or purchase over the internet with an un known source is a gamble. Again, if you can't afford to loose it don't do it.

I may sound harsh on this subject but I purchase and trade on the internet all the time and have only been burned 1 time. Its a great place to get bargains.

Personally I would never pay the same price for something over the net (person to person or ebay sale) that I would pay at the LHS or similar. If I'm going to take the risk of buying something sight unseen (digi pics help but its not the same as holding it in your hand and inspecting it) then it better be worth my while.... For example...I've found 4 Savage 21s "BRAND NEW" at the 2 LHSs by me for about $350. So....there is no way in hell I would pay anything close to that for one off the net...especially if its used. I might go as high as $200 but thats pushing it unless it has a TON of hopups. Even then not more than $300. As Eddy said its a gamble and if the risk isnt worth it and you can't afford to lose it, then done trade/buy over the net.

Having said all of that...I feel buying from someplace like Towerhobbies and the such are fine because they are big companies and have great reputations. I look at them as my Not-So-Local LHS.

It all depends on the persons attitude and willing to negotiate. I personally ALWAYS give my PH# to the person if they like to call me. Or I'll ask for their # and call them.

Most People are Honest. Only a few Bad Apples. If they are legit then they wont have a Problem giving you a Phone # or calling you.

As for buyin from a LHS for the Same Price. I see it this way IF they have it in stock I'm the type who wants it now. If they dont and someone on here would have it and can ship it asap. Id rather help someone here out. He/She must be selling for a reason to buy something else. So I'll give them my $$ or trade etc..

I guess I boils down to establishing TRUST as the post is titles. Ask on the forums who knows who etc. Call em.

1 thing I ALWAYS DO is Get the stuff Insured for FULL NEW VALUE not what it was sold for. and ALWAYS get DELIVERY CONFORMATION.

if it is LOST your insured and can get NEW PARTS etc. not just the $$ you sold it for. and Deliveryconformation You know the person got it because They have to sign for it.

Great/not so great deal. In june or july when there was a true ship date on 25's the price went rock bottom on remaining stock for them. The last 3 I purchased from my supplier were $80-90 less then normal wholesale price. Too bad, now they are gone.

I sell alot through the net, and buy some also. It has to be a great deal for me to consider a used item unless someone/many have vouched for the seller.

Pay via Pay Pal if they accept it, they'll cause all kinds of BS if your not happy. I have an Ebay customer that complained a new Savage 21 had a broken part, 85 days after it was purchased!!!!!!! The case is still up but at one point they were going to refund the customer the full $400+ for the truck and shipping charges without me/before I get the truck back.

If not pay pal, use a US Postal Service money order. They track them quickly and after 90 days you can file mail fraud charges on the seller if the item has yet to show. Send it certified mail, you can tell when they received the payment also.

Pay for shipping insurance on the item also!!!!!!

Man, this is a great topic.

RC is a hobby that has it's peaks and valleys. You're going to have problems. When those problems come up, you have to solve them. My sons buggy doesn't have a proper mounting bracket for his tuned pipe. Instead, I bent a piece of rod stock into the proper shape and secured it with a bolt. Every does that kind of stuff with their RC's. Primer pump craps out so you take it out and put a screw and some epoxy to cover the hole.

My point is that RC's have problems. When you buy a used RC, you're buying someone else's problems. There isn't much getting around it. The person selling the RC is going to do his best to conceal or gloss over the problems. If you're trading over the Internet, you're at a higher risk.

Bottome Line: I don't buy any used parts from ebay or from anyone I don't know in general. If it's NIB and at a good price, I'm all over it.

Just my $0.02
