umnnn owwwwkeey :).. but did you guys tried anyother car or only the one you own (mtx)

Thats an excellent point.

Its hard to be objective about which car is better when the person replying has not "owned" both.

Even if the person has driven the other vehicle its not enough time to form a complete picture of which is better.

I also think there are other factors to consider besides just "speed", such as durability, ease of tuning, ease of obtaining parts. And speed is also a factor of engine, gearing, tire selection, and car set-up...

With that said, I've got a HPI R40. Bought it based on price point and that it looks like an MTX copy.....

I have not had eithe of them but at my local track all the races are won by the G4s.The r40 is to heavy to be a competative racer. It is more topheavy than the other cars.

i own the r40.the r40 may be heavyer than the other cars but it aint top heavy and is very competitive.there also the r40 2004 kit it has lots more option part is alot lighter ether car is competitive.

nitro13,

Thats correct about the R40 winning a big national race. I believe it was the ROAR Nationals...

I've got the article somewhere and can dig it out. But the driver, Hara, who won, ran with a "box-stock" car. No fancy sponsored driver stuff, just the stock car off the shelf.

The article further stated that during one of the A mains, he was involved in a pile up that put him dead last. He managed to come back and drive his way to the front and win.

With his R40 he beat G4s, NTC3, and MTXs.... There were some big names in RC in that event. Based on that fact, I doubt the R40 is "too top heavy to be a competitive racer"...

Goes to show you that driver ability has WAY more to do with it than the car. But it also shows that the R40 is more than capable...

the nitro tc3 is also a good car and has been wining for along time.

the r40 also won the BRCA 1/10th Nitro Foam Class National at the weekend using the HPI R40, Team Orion .12 Wasp Turbo engine and Fresh Kicks foam tyres and Tornado 25% Race Blend fuel driving by Robin Hammett.

After qualifying 6th in the A Final, with what was the strongest driver line up of the season, he worked his way through the field, during the 30 minute final. Once in the lead, he was able to go in cruise mode and finished 2 laps up on the field.

Results

1st Robin Hammett
2nd Mark Green
3rd Stephen Lander

theres the link.

wow these are good replys

nitro13 you know something more about the 2004 r40?

gotta say the r40 looks very good. i knew hara won with it comming from way behind in the race.
some say the r40 did good cause it was hara driving. might be, but i quess the other racers aint noobs also.

the g4 looks damnnn fast, but thats just the looks. looks aint making the car fast does it  did it win any big race?

aprilla what engine are you running with yours? and can you post or sent the artical (if ya stil have it ) :D

The article appeared in the Nov. 03 issue of Xtreme RC Cars. They review the R40 in it as well as coverage of the ROAR National. I need to reread the articles and will quote out of it....

I run the Sirio .12 engine. I got them "used" so I don't know the exact model of them...

I think the thing to "take away" from Hara winning with the box-stock R40, is that its a very competent car. If a pro-driver can do well with a stock version of the car, its a good platform. If it was junk (poor geometry, not easy to set-up), Hara probabaly would have still done well, but maybe not enough to win....

It wasn't box stock (to my knowledge let me find the info) and it used RD's badass pipe. The most recent Nationals that were held the Mugen MTX-3 was 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

well a r40 has won the Snetterton Nationals and another one was 3rd at the brca nationals.

i think the cars are kinda the same. but the price isnt as far as i know.

Yeah, I should have been more clear...

The rolling chassis that you or I can buy (I did :) ) in kit form is the same one Hara used to win the ROAR National. The basic off the shelf kit was what was used....(This is based on the article).

I didn't mean to give the impression that the rest of the car was "box-stock". I'm sure the engine and pipe combo was something specifically tuned for him...

I was just trying to make the point that the R40 is a competitive car right out of the box....

You right it is very competitive and you have a great point.

I found the article.

HPI Equipment used:

HPI R40 kit

Aluminium Threaded Shocks

Front One-Way Diff

Shock Springs (rear)

HPI Pro Foam Tires

HPI Titanium Screws

HPI Titanium Turnbuckles

Super Chassis

Front and Rear Graphite Shock Tower

Hollow Gear Shafts

Read the article on HPI's website. That car was far from stock, but it is very competitive.

Let's make it clear the G4 is a much better car than the r40 I have ProE class 3mm chasis it is 1/2 the weigth of an r40 which gives you the advantage parts are not as cheap than the r40 but you pay for what you get as for driving thru turns the cg on the G4 kills the r40 & on the straightaway with the right motor. you can compare the g4 to a Mtx3 ,serpent 710 there is no comparision for a g4 to the r40 you need to compare racing cars to car & the r40 is a great car but @ local tracks nobody is Tq the race with an r40 maybe @ the HPI challenge that is my theory & YOU WILL HEAR THAT FROM PEOPLE WHO RACE ALOT.
