My S25 has 3 quarts through it and it runs very good. I think my tuning is good because it runs without hesitation, it sounds clean, it blows smoke, and the temps are reasonable. The compression feels very good.

I am able to get it started pretty easily when it is cold. I loosen the glow plug slightly, prime the carb by blowing into the pressure line until the fuel hits the carb, put on my glow igniter, manually open the throttle about ½ way, and start pulling. It usually starts to kick after about 2 pulls and I can get it running after a few more pulls.

If I try to start the motor when it is hot I have a lot of problems. When it is hot the compression is a lot less so I do not loosen the glow plug. I make sure that the carb is primed and I pull and pull and I get nothing. I do not even get a kick. When the engine cools down a bit (about 10 minutes) and the compression goes back up I am able to get it started again.

I have never been able to restart it when it is hot. I’ve tried playing with my throttle opening while pulling, I’ve tried priming it more to the point of flooding, and I’ve tried clearing the engine of fuel (remove plug, turn upside down, pull a few times). None of this works. The only way I am able to get a hot engine restarted is to let it cool down.

Is there a trick to restarting a warm engine?

first off your SUPOSED to let it cool down for like 10 min after a tank but if its not starting after its warmed up you might want to check temps to make sure it too high (over 270F) or you might wanna try a different plug.

As for starting a hot engine. I'll first try to start it just without priming it or anything. If that doesn't work, then i'll just flood the engine a whole bunch, open up the throttle to about 1/4 throttle and give it everything i've got. As soon as it starts the truck will probably wanna take off so you better have your hand ready to close the carb.

You might also try running the engine a bunch richer to try to get the temps down a bit so you don't get the engine so hot that it won't start again.

Pull like heck, and open the carb a little.

I've tried it with the carb wide open. No go... Waiting 10 minutes is probably better than dealing with blisters.
