i have a tmaxx 3.3 i was driving in dirt yesterday it started to act funny all the power started going to the front the rear had almost no power at all I'm wondering what could have happened did the rear differential go out?

Drive shaft stripped, yoke pin broke, diff popped, you won't know till you start looking for the failure.
Start at the rear center drive shaft and go from there.

could it have been a spun hex the left side melted after investigating it today

Absolutely; a stock diff will send all the power to the wheel side with the least resistance.
A stripped wheel or wheel hex would be the side with the least, and the diff will just send the power to that side. Since the hex/wheel is stripped neither side will put power to the ground.
