traxxas released the new constant velocity shafts for the revo... nice. for a complete set, they're saying MSRP is $80.

riddle me this, though. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXPNK0&P=7 - $9.29?!

if we buy now, do they have to honor the price when they become available?

are these better than the other plastic ones? are they durable for bashing and other off road stuff??

You have to remember that MSRP on almost all this hobby stuff is near 200% more than what we really see it for. I remember seeing the MSRP on the t-maxx and savage being around $700 when we really paid $400.

And if it's anything like the retail electronics business, the profit margin on the discounted price is stil around 50-60%.

The one thing I don't like about them.... at least the ones for the Tmaxx, are that they are not rebuildable like the CVD's from MIP. They are much cheaper than the MIP's though.

My hobby shop got those in like a month ago and they are sooo sweet. I want to buy a set eventually. There like 60 bucks or something, which is cheap because the vantage ones are 80 I think.

what's the full set? the shafts coming from the transmission, and all 4 wheels?

for $60 that really isn't bad at all. and, traxxas claims "These are simply the most advanced steel CV driveshafts available."

yeah... i'm sold. just need to get my paws on a set now :)

IMO the plastic ones work just fine for me. I have yet to hear of one breaking because of too much power. If you break one its because you hit something hard, which in turn would bend a metal one. Then you have to replace the more expensive metal one.

Cheap is my middle name, but in this case I don't see a need to replace what has been working in my truck just fine for 2 years.

i hear ya... i've had mine for 3 now. i haven't broken a single shaft.

it's more for aesthetic reasons, i believe ;)

I've busted a couple stockers on my revo. Only under extreme conditions. My revo has RPM arms and has had either a mild big block or 18TM in it the majority of it's life. It's always been geared kind of low as well.

The two times I broke stock axles was when I cased a couple jumps almost at WOT. The RPM arms bent so far that the axles broke at the joint near the wheel. One of the times, the RPM arm snapped as well.

Otherwise I've run about 14+ gallons through the truck and those were the only two axle issues.

Once, I had a c-clip come off one of the centers. The pin slid out and jammed up the driveline. Nothing broke though. The holes on one of the yokes got all stretched out and I replaced it as well.
