The other day I took apart my motor to do some inside cleaning of it(it's been awhile) I put it all back together now it won't hold idle. I replaced the glowplug and made sure all settings are where they were before. Have a clean filter too, on or off does'nt make a difference. I also have the idle all the way up (screw won't go in anymore. I did'nt take the carb apart or even of the motor this has me really confused  . Can anyone help or has had this happen to them? It seems the carb is closing to far but how? I did'nt touch it and the idle screw is all the way in. This is on the traxxas 2.5 stock motor and carb.

how much disassembly did you do on the engine, you might have an air leak from having things been apart.did you use any high temp sealer when you put it back together?

Air leak is possible, and when you say you turned the idle all the way up then say you're not sure if it's closing too far, which is it?

could it be possible?

Is a worn out piston and sleeve a possibility? In the traxxas manual it says sign of worn piston and sleeve will cause idle problems. Could that be. I don't think it's an air leak. All seals wear good and bolts were tight. The idle is turned up as high as possible. Could it be the sleeve & piston. When it was apart I hit them (Lightly) with 1600 grit sandpaper to clear of spotting. I'm starting to think that was a horrible idea and I wore down the piston. I only rub the piston for a few scrubs to clean it up but I'm thinking that did it. Sound possible?

It could of, I wouldn't let sand paper get near the inside of the engine, but if you rubbed it enough to take off the spots on the inside of the engine then it is a really good possibility that you destroyed the P&S. Sorry about your luck if htat really is the problem.

i just did the exact same thing to my motor, but not the sanding part i get it all back together and wolnt idol. The carb wolnt go in all the way the two edges arent flush with each other. Is that supposed to be like that? I can still see the orange o ring and about a milimeter of space left where i think it could go back in the motor farther. idk can some one help me too? Oh and when i put the ez start in and hit it and the gas it goes, then when i let off the gas it dies.

Fixed it

Check your piston it can only go in one way. their is a notch out on the bootm of the piston. make sure the notch is towards the carb side of the motor. That fixed it now it runs like a champ!

How much fuel has this engine seen? You may just have a carb problem.I have heard and seen the TMAXX carb get stuck and its not pretty. The needles may have been gummed up from old fuel. I would change the lines and check the carb for any blockage.

Thanks sportmaxxer you just saved me about 200 dolars.Jon2 I think i will take my carb apart tonight and soak it on alcohol to clean it. THanks for the help guys.

Glad I could help!

Was that the problem. That had me stumped for awhile but then I thought about it and looked at some pics and sure enough that's what I did. Glad to help bro!
