What are the typical transponders that people use at the track? I will most likely need to buy one for my track and will go with whatever their system is so I can be timed but was curious what the differences are. Their's is a $40 transponders but I believe there are others like AMB which are much more expensive. Anything special about those as opposed to the less expensive ones?

Most tracks use an AMB system.

AMB branded transponders are pricey. Used ones can be found for about $80 if you are lucky.

There is a company that sells AMB compatible transponders for much less, but their name escapes me right now.

edit: I found the link.

Thanks for the information rob. I'll be getting one if any of the other tracks require an AMB compatible transponder.

the rclaps clone is MRT's PTX... dun think i've heard of another mob doing same

not sure if clones will cease working once all tracks upgrade to MYLAPS (=AMB) new format & beyond

just upgraded previous AMB PT (RC3) to a MYLAPS RC4... 60% smaller fits nice :D

btw some smaller tracks use "iLap" system

cheaper to buy whole system & invidividual transponders but they are not interccompatible with AMB standard

AMB remains the dominant international standard, i don't think they'll be knocked off anytime soon

Yeah, I found out my local track uses iLap so I may get one next time I'm out if I race much this season.
