Hi all

my savage x has a 3 speed tranny on it. it is not going in to any gears??? i have been reading that to change the shifting time from gear 1 to 2 you have to dismsntle the gear box (if so how do you do this what do you do)?? And to change the shifting point on 2to 3 it is a screw ???? please help STUCK:\:\:\

it is not going in to any gears???

does it move at all?
does it have reverse?
did you buy this used or have you had it since new?
did it ever work before? and if so what did it do when it stopped working?
has it been sitting awhile?
let us know

If you want to adjust from 1-2 you need to remove the top of the tranny case and disassemble the 3 speed assembly. Gears 2-3 can be adjusted from outside the tranny case.

My truck is brand new. It has never been working.

When you disasemble the tranny what do you doo??????

It is not going in to any gears> and it has not got reverce. No it hasnt been sitting a while,

if its not movin at all, then first try the spur gear.. the gear that rotates off the clutch bell. tighten the nut on that all the way down then back it off 1/2 turn... if that doesn't work then tear into the tranny.. :D try to think of the simple thing first

Need more info. Let's start from the beginning.
You can start the engine. What happens when you throttle up? Can you rev it like a car in neutral?
If you can, is the spur gear turning? Does it creep a little?
Can you keep it from turning while you rev it?
If you can feel a good load on the spur while revving it, you need to go to the next step, the shift servo and the linkage adjustment.
Use your fingers to shift the linkage into gear and try revving it again. If it moves, shift it manually into reverse. If it backs up, you need to adjust your servo throw or your linkage position.
If you still can't get it to move, look for a broken pin from the trans to the drive shaft.
Opening the trans would be the last resort.

When i start up the truck the spur gear creeps a little and no i can not rev it?????

and one otther thing when i roll it with the engine of the big sour gear does not move could this be leading to the transmition problem???
:)

okay...let me add my .02 here. if its brand new, the 1st gear is factory set and barring a factory screw should work. engaging 1st gear happens pretty must immediately and there isnt a 'sound' change like going to 2nd or 3rd gear.

so lets refresh here...you can start the truck, correct? you said it creeps forward but your can not rev the motor. if so, lets start there. does the motor shut off when you give it throttle? does it bog down and then sut off? if thats the case, the needle settings might be off. did you adjust them at all trying to get it shift? once we get the motor reving as it should we can move onto the drive system.

items to look for in the drive system are: have you checked for any binding issues? maybe a rock or perhaps a loose screw from the factory that keeping the spur, clutch bell or drive shafts from spinning. when you turm the wheels by hand, do the drive shafts turn and do they turn the drive cups?

This could be a long thread... Since you say you can't rev the engine, do you have batteries in the remote and the truck?

Hi people

Hear is a link [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oMo7bXxg-I"]YouTube - Transition problem[/ame] Please look

ok, that clears up a little bit. You said the truck is new... Did you do a break in on it yet? Did you adjust any of the needles on the carb?

If you did not break it in traxxas has a pretty good heat cycle method in their manual. Look it up on traxxas.com. any of their nitro vehicles will have it. If you have touched the needles look in your manual and set them back to factory settings. it just seems very rich to me is the only problem. If you havent broken in it yet it shouldnt be shifting anyway. Theres is nothing wrong with the truck from the vid, its in the tuning but if you havent broken in it you dont need to tune it yet

Hi there i have broke it in i took it to the shop to get that done > But why is it not shifting.

At one point in the video i think it did shift. But heres what you need to try next. Look in the second post and follow that step by step.

Also, I assume this is your first nitro. Doing the breakin yourself lets you learn about the truck as you go. I would recommend doing it yourself the next time

To answer your question though, its not shifting because the engine is not tuned right which means its not making enough power for it to shift

Everything seems to be turning properly. I'm pretty sure you've got a tuning issue. It would have been very helpful to have a vid of it running on the ground.

Yeah it's definatley in the tuning plus at least from my experience the K 4.6 takes a good while to get really good and broke in. Mine went through almost a gallon and a half of fuel before it really started coming to life. Just keep running it and get a temp gun to help you with tuning.

You probably noticed that it ran better each time you started it. It needs to warm up, just like any other piston engine. Proper ignition is achieved with proper temp and tune.

i will get a vidio of it running today. I am going to tune it and then see if it shifts

Hi people

I tuned the savage today, didnt make much diffrance. I ran it for a bit and didnt change. When i stopped the car the,the car wont move when rolling i think the clucth shoes are engaged and stopping the clucth bell to move freely.

Thanks Elliot
