Sup guys,

Listen I need some help with a transmission issue I am havving. I changed up come things on my truck a couplf of weeks ago and well it seems like it is stuck in second gear ever since. I have the savage 21RTR and changed the spur gear from a 52Tooth to a 49Tooth spur. I also changed the clutch bell to a 15Tooth. Well ever since It seems to be stuck in second gear. I mean the truck just has no low end at all. I have changed the shift point from all the way in tightened down to all the way loose pretty much and nothing. I have even run it right in the middle and nothing. I have had the transmission apart and everything is clean in there and looks like it should I even lubed the pawl on the 2 speed shifter. Anyone have any ideas what may be wrong???

Are you sure it is in second gear? You may be stuck in first.

I could be wrong!!!

Jon, I am pretty sure it is not stuck in first gear given the fact that when I run my picco in it. I am told by a couple of other guys that it should wheelie like crazy. Two I put it on a stand with the wheels off of the ground and gun it and it doesn't change gears, also it tends to take much longer than normal to get the tires to balloon up. I dunno I'm just at my whitt's end.

You rang? When you say you gunned it on the stand, did you just nail it? I've gone round and round with my tranny before, and it isn't much fun when it doesn't shift right.

I usually hold the truck up, so I can feel it shift, and slowly squeeze the throttle. Sometimes it will shift, but it's hard to tell sometimes. Don't tweak the shift point by much each time you adjust it. Go from all the way in and come out about a 1/4 turn each test. Once you feel it shift, then plop it on the ground and test it. Repeat till you get it to shift at the right time, but always sneak into the throttle.

If that doesn't work, then I'd look at the shift lever on the second gear. I had a problem where there was some loctite gumming up the lever and it wouldn't go into second (this was from the factory on a new truck). If the lever moves freely, then it might be time to rebuild the 2nd gear clutch.

shifting

I would think that if you were all the way loose on the adjustment that you would be stuck in 2nd gear. On mine , I had to tighten it up a little to get it to shift alittle later, but thats pretty tight. So I would imagine that it would need to be tightened up then backed off a little at a time and also check the motor it self to see if it's adjusted right. If it's tunnned wrong it will also give the effect of being in 2nd with no low-end tourqe. I would think it would be in the tunning if you have been running it already with the other gears.Whenever I change gears I have to retune my engine to utilize the gearing.Sounds like you went down in gearing wich would take away from the bottom and give you more top. If you have touched the needles, then try putting the old gears back in and see what it does, but I would almost be positive without seeing it run that it would be in the tunning. HOPE you get it right and back on the track:cheers:

When you went from a 52 spur to a 49 spur your truck will stay in second gear. It thinks your all reved out (tranny think). Turn the second set screw you see as they pass by in the access hole 90 degrees, clockwise and run it again. Then go 90 more. This adjustment is WAY sensitive, and you'll pass right by the adj very quickly. I had some funn with this recently, playin with the gears. When you get it your going to like the top end.
