will a t-maxx 2.5 tran hold up to a 3.3. My freind has a 3.3 with a broken trans and I have a extra trans for a 2.5. I will let him have it if it will work.
 
It will hold up, you just have to loosen up the slipper clutch a bit. I have a 3.3 in my classic. I've stripped a couple gears in the tranny, but that was because of a tight slipper clutch.

and qaart, they aren't the same, big differences, but they are interchangeable between 2.5 and 3.3 maxx's.
