What is the rubber thing that you can pull up on top if the tranny ? And also, when I apply the brakes on me Sportmaxx, the gears seem to 'click' when the disc brake slips. Thanks alot

Its clicking because it wants to engage. You can try loosening your slipper if you think its excessive. Just dont loosen it too much, as you run the risk of it melting. This clicking in natural for all TMaxx's that do not have a forward only conversion installed in the tranny. No worries.

As for the rubber plug - this is where you would adjust your shift point. Please refer to your manual on this as you dont want to screw it up. But you can advance or delay your shift point. Never do this until your mill is completely broken in over many of tanks.

no, I have a SPORTMAXX, which only has foward. Thanks for explaining what the rubber thing was even although I don't have 2 speed (yet):naughty:

Then i take it you are still in the break-in process as well?

You can try turning the idle down a hair as well. This will help with it wanting to engage early.

nope, fully broken in.

ok, start again. When I break on my SPORTMAXX (single speed), it seems to click. I think it is because it has only back wheel braking (2wd). When I accelerate it is brilliant and I can pull wheelies :cheerful: andd it also brakes well apart from the noise. I have had the SPORTMAXX for about 2 weeks. Thanks alot
:ahem:

What is the default setting for a T-Maxx transmission? I am talking about the shift point. Do you also know what size driver the set screw is?

no offense to anyone, but i dont think a lot of people realize the sport maxx is a single sped tranny. it is geared inbetween the regular t maxx tranny for performance.
your little rubber plug on the top of your tranny case is for shift point adjustment, you dont have a 2 speed tranny. the case is used if you decide to switch to a 2 speed. there is no sence in retooling for a new case just for the sport maxx.

you might want to check your idle setting, what might be happening is your still reving a little high on deceleration and the clutches in the single speed are still trying to engage.

check the throttle adjustment knob on the radio and adjust as needed. then check the idle setting on the carb.
you just might have to back down a little.

its a starting point. not to many people i know of out there with the sport maxx. its a new tranny and its problems arnt well known yet if there any.

You aren't offending anyone. Most people do not know that, but some of us do. That is why we are here. Thank you for pointing that information out for those who did not know it.

a local hobby/racing shop is moving and opening new store front with a indoor nitro track. that sport maxx tranny might be a good idea to try out on the track.........being a single speed, less rotational mass, might be easier to controll with out the kick when it shifts in to second on the longer straights.

jim

indoor? wow i have never seen an indoor nitro track. that would be kool. i have been to my LHS a few times but never been on the track. i want too so damn bad. but i can't right now because i am over 4,000 miles away from my truck and LHS. lol

If anyone DOES want to tweak the shift point on the 2-speed Maxx, it's a 2mm wrench. There's two set screws in the shift mechanism that are accessible from the hole in the top of the tranny. One is for shift point adjustment. The other is the set screw that anchors the shift mechanism to the primary shaft and you DON'T want to loosen that one.
shiftpoint.webp

Shown is wrench in the shift point adjuster. If your wrench is pointing straight at the primary shaft when you've seated it in the hex screw, then you've got the wrong one.

indoor is going to be fun in the winter. there still dealing with the permit issues, but it sounds like they might beable to start building the track real soon.
basicaly geared twards the stadiums and the monster trucks, wish they would build it big enough for buggys.

someplace to race, and I'm not going to complaine. hoping they decide to build an out door track next spring.

jim

yes, that would be really kool during the winter months to have an indoor track. but i rather stick to the good ol' out doors.
