Hey everyone, if you read my last post then you know what happened to my tranny. I replaced my input shaft but when I got my spur gear back on it was hard to spin. I couldn't figure it out. When I was in my tranny I compared the teeth on the new input shaft gears to the other gears in my tranny and saw they were really worn down. Instead of replacing all these gears I would rather buy a 3.3 tranny. I was just wondering if the 3.3 tranny is a direct drop in on my 2.5 maxx. I read somewhere on here that it was and I read that it wasn't. I need some clarification.

Thanks,
Austin

I'm not sure if the bolt holes line up, but if it can be mounted, you'll also need the 3.3 brake parts and front drive shaft. I'd pop the tranny you have back open and figure out the problem. Giving up won't teach you anything. It's probably a simple problem if all the gears look good. It may be as simple as having a shim in the wrong place.

I don't have a problem with pulling the tranny apart again and finding what's wrong with it, it's just that all the gears are really worn and beat. The 3.3 already shreaded my input gear, it'll probly break more in the future. I found a good deal on a forward only 3.3 tranny with complete brake and spur and I found a good deal on the center shafts.

In the title of the tranny listing on eBay it says 3.3, 2.5. I guess that means it'll fit. I'm gonna message the seller just to make sure.

The owner of my lhs said it'll bolt right up. When I did the engine exchange, I was gonna go with the 3.3. But decided on the 2.5r. The tranny should bolt up to the 2.5 chassis. The screws go through the chassis brace holes. Should be 3 on one side and 4 on the opposite.

Where ya gettin 3 on one side and 4 on the other side from? My maxx and every other maxx chassis I've seen has had 4 holes on both sides where the tranny goes.

Lmao!!!! Sorry my fault.....I'm missing a screw..totally my fault. Wasn't thinking clearly. Just got out of work, pretty tired. That should bolt up to your 2.5 chassis though.

Lol it's alright. I'll see if my mom can order me the tranny and center shafts tonight

EDIT: make that Friday. My mom will order me the tranny and center shafts on Friday

The 3.3 tranny only uses 7 screws. On one side, you can't screw one in due to its design. The chassis has 8 holes for screws but the tranny just doesn't use 8. I thought I had lost a screw when I pulled mine out but in the process of putting it back in, I realized that one of the holes was useless.

Good call dude. I just checked mine and yea, there are 8 holes but only 7 of them are being used. Wow, I guess I was right after all. Man I need some sleep! Lol

That doesn't make much sense. Why have 8 holes if they can't all be used?

I have a question, when I get the new tranny will I need a new clutch bell or will my old one still be good to use?

The chassis has 8 holes because they used the same layout and design on all of them. The old trannys had mounts for all 8 screws and the new one only has 7. I assume it was just easier for them to use the same chassis platform instead of creating a whole new one.

I'm not sure if you'll need a new clutch bell or not. I'm sure someone on here can answer that for you. But, looking at my layout(4908) the engine mount can me moved/adjusted so it might be possible that you can adjust its position to line up with the correct mesh on the spur gear.

your tranny will bolt right up to the 2.5 chassis. Meaning, why would ya need a new clutch bell? Everything should line up real nice. I believe the only time you'll need to move anything is if you get a bigger/smaller spur gear.

It all depends on what you want for gearing. I run an18 tooth cb, with a 54 tooth spur. Runs great with that combo. Should be able to just change your spur from 2.5 to 3.3?
