  1. Bashing
Hi I got a question for everyone. My T-Maxx 2.5 has stripped out the tranny 4 times now. Every time I take it out doesn't matter if I drive it for an hour or ten min cause I've done both and I'm not beating on it. Now I have taken it to the LHS every time and he's fixed it but last time it didn't have second gear. He keeps telling me that these trannys are very good but come on I've only driven it 4 times and blown the tranny 4 times. Is there a better tranny I can buy or do I just give up on Rcing all together?

Find a different hobby store or download the pdf for your tranny . If youve had to take it back to your lhs 4 times they never fixed it right the 1st time bud . What exactly are you stripping ?

I read this post and thought of Tranny in a different way ;-) If you have a weird sense of humor you will know what I mean.

As for your problem, have you tried loosening your slipper clutch a bit? Also do your wheels spin freely or do they have resistance? If they are not, you could be putting a lot of strain on your tranny. One more thing are you running stock tires and rims? Or something extra heavy?

I am running it totally stock. The first time I snapped the shaft the gears go on then I stripped the gears themselves the third time he didn't tell me and I don't know this time. But I agree he must be doing something wrong.

Download the pdf and strip it yourself . Its alot easyier than you would think . Will the truck roll forward or back ?

what position is the forward/reverse shaft in to go forawrd??? because I had my diffs in upside down and didnt notice right off and it put alot of stess on the tranny and I broke a few things!!!! grease your bearings in the axle caries and stuff to make sure the beaings are not binding up....

One big question did you buy this new or used????
and yeah donload the specs and blown out diagrams and part numbers those help alot you go to traxxas.com and go to products and click on what you have and then download the diagrams.... I hope you stay in the hobby its alot of fun when stuff is working right..

The other thing is he might not of put any lythium grease in the tanny..... I hope you stick with it and I know between everybody on the site we will be able to figue it out..

well thanks everyone I am going to stuck with it for now lol. I bought it new its only had half a gallon of nitro run throught it. I think I'm going to take it back to the hobby shop and make him fix it this time for free cause it pisses me off that I only drove it ten min and it didnt have reverse and now nothing. And then next time just jump in and tear it down on my own (with all your help of course) so thanks again everyone.

Loosen your slipper a little and make sure you don't shift reverse while on the throttle.

You need to learn how to wrench on it your self, it will save you money in the long run.
Sooner or latter he's gonna tell you "it worked fine when you picked it up, what did YOU do to it" & it'll cost X more to fix it again.

Better yet go with the Forward only conversion (FOC) and be done with it.

Agreed. You should definately try to fix it yourself. I know that you would rather be out bashing it right now, but it will be worth it to try and learn on it yourself...and WAY cheaper. I wouldnt even bother to go back to your lhs for any more help if I were you!! It sounds like your being taken for a ride. The FOC would be a good investment for you.

Try not to get to frusturated, just start working on it, and if you run into any issues, just turn on the computer, and log in to RCNT...we'll help you out.

Yeah I have done all my own work and worked on a few friends rigs.... and I have a few free passes fo getting wok done at my lhs fo the amount of money I spend there... but I always feel much safer knowing what parts are going into my rig!!! and knowing they are in the right place and lubed if they gotta be!! it is alot more rewarding to fix your self because on some fixes you might take an hour and be right back out bashing where if you woulda brought it to the lhs you loose the whole day of bashing!!

If you go back to this LHS and have it repaired again, have him run the rig for 10-20 minutes. That way if it breaks again, it is clearly on him and he can't blame you or your driving habits. These tranny's are pretty tough, I run my truck hard, my slipper kind of tight, and have oversized wheels and never had a problem with the tranny. Actually for a while I was twisting the stock rear center driveshaft repeatedly before replacing it with a steel CVD. That just shows how much torque and strain I was delivering through the tranny.

Lose the reverse and put a forward only conversion in it. It takes alot of moving parts out of the tranny. More moving parts= more things to go wrong. Most new trucks dont even have reverse. Plus it takes a lot of stress out of the trans by reducing the rotating mass inside.
