Yeah, I said lube, SO WHAT? :jk:
I used that way-cool search function and read a thread regarding tranny lube. I noticed some folks indicating that white lithium grease, lightly brushed on the gear teeth, was the way to go. A couple others, Plaidfish being one, mentioned that, after some time, the grease works it's way into the clutch and locks it up.
The question I have is, can you substitute the grease with powdered white lubricant? Normally, I'd just try it and see what happens, but the problem is, the Maxx is my brother's truck, and while he's a great guy, I'd rather put the money into my own rigs!
A little background: the truck wasn't running right, it acted like a gear had stripped. The spur gear is a little worse for wear, but the teeth were all there, so I figured I'd be safe and crack the tranny to just cover my butt. The internal gears all look solid and in good shape, so I'm going to clean everything up, lube the bearings and replace the spur to see what happens.
Thanks!
