Took my maxx out for a warm up last evening. Nothing to hard
couple warm up passes then a few gravel spins ended up on pavement.
Then it stopped moving. Foward and reverse. No unusual noises.
Just quit moving. Every thing looks ok. External. Any ideas before i rip
Out the tranny.

Slipper clutch. If the fibers are worn completely it wont move at all. If you have the stock slipper on the black tranny i recommend upgrading it to the torque control slipper kit from traxxas for $25. Comes with all you need including new tranny input shaft. Gets rid of the 12 tiny round fibers and uses 3 larger fibers like the newer 3.3 trans.

Is the input shaft easy to replace? Is there a video? Or is as simple as removing tranny opening and replacing. That makes sense. I have been loosing power. I have xtra new slippers ready to go.ill replace that if that corrects the problem ill get the kit. Thanks again!! Really appreciate it..

If you were spinning in gravel onto pavement, you could have sheared a pin on the inside of the transmission.

True. I sheared the pin on the center shaft once before. Also the install for the shaft on the upgrade is pretty easy. Just remove transmission and remove all screws. Open up tranny and you will see how to go from there.

Ill look at slipper. Has 2 gal on it. Then look at tranny. That comes off easy. Thanks again.

To the test the gears in the Tranny hold the truck on the ground and spin the spur gear I think counter clockwise if not it is clock wise and see if the truck moves forward. Listen for grinding noises and feel for resistance.

This can also be a test for the slipper clutch if the spur gear moves with little resistance then the rubber spacers on the slipper are shot. They compress or wearout over time.

With the truck on a stand spin both rear tires foreward then backwards and see if it spins the Spur Gear. Listen for grinding noises and feel for resistance. All 4 tires should spin and the spur gear should move. Listen for grinding noises in the tranny.

Another test for the spur gear is hold the clutch bell and attempt to spin the spur gear than feel for excessive play. If spur gear moves it is stripped.

I have also broke pins and stripped gears in my Differentials both front and rear but not at the same time and it causes the truck to be a 2 wheel drive.

I have had all of these problems on my TMaxx 4910 plus many more.... probably have broken or bent everything on this truck at least once except for the engine never have damaged the engine.

Good advise, but it will only work for the grey transmission and the black transmission with FOC.
The black tranny with reverse can not be tested this way. The spur will spin freely in either direction due to the centrifugal clutch gears on the output shaft.

i thought ksrichard had the foc,i was mistaken, ksrichard you should invest in the foc conversion it is probly about the best modification one could do to a maxx moneywise, about 12 bucks it will cost, this will eliminate your reverse gear and substantially increase the durability of your tranny, also this will cut the weight of the tranny in halve and eliminate the bucking that happens on easy takeoffs

Free wheeling the tires off the ground will work on a Black Tranny and produce grinding sounds or some resistance if the gears are bad. Putting the front on the ground and spinning both rear tires will test the gears also to see how well it moves forward.

You are correct and I have a FOC on my Black transmission. I installed it this summer after I chipped a few teeth on the forward gears in the transmission. How quickly we forget all the details.

Took out tranny. It rattled like a xmas present we got to shake xmas eve n couldnt open til morning.
Definatly a pin. Found half. The rest was dust.. Kinda like reverse. This is my second issue. First i was
Missing clip from factory. Not sure where pin goes though. Headed to lhs after work. Thanks.. Mabye get foc.. Save head aches. Thanks. This site rocks...
