I'm planning on doing a hyper 8 port conversion in my maxx and was wondering what gears you guys would suggest?? Links would be Great!! Thanks! ~Andy

I have heard good things about RRP. I also know that you do not want to mix metals

An aluminum gear against a Ti gear will wear out the aluminum gear faster than if it were aluminum to aluminum.

I hope that makes sense. I'm just saying go with all one metal, and all the same hardness, otherwise stuff will wear quicker.

This is what I put in my Tranny when I converted to a Hyper 8 port....

I found them to be the cheapest from RC Boyz.com

Here are the part #'s your looking for:
RR 8586 Hardened Steel FOC $21.37
RR 8525 Steel Top Shaft $31.12
RR 8529 Steel FOC Primary gear $16.13

Boca Bearings
Part #MR115-2GSB -54 (5x11x4) 5 of them $2.75each
Part #MR116-2GSB -54 (6x11x4) 1 of them $3.75each

Here is the thread that I posted not long ago....

Tranny Meltdown

I went with all steel RRP gears in my tranny with the FOC. RC Boyz is indeed the cheapest place I could find also. You also may want to consider the RRP double disk slipper with one of their hardened steel clutch bells.

I have found that the RRP double slipper for the (E)-Maxx works much better. It sports a smaller spur and will keep a lot of the gear ripping torque away from the drive train.

I went with all alum. to save on the weight and haven't has any issues.

I ran aluminum Hardcore Racing gears in one of my maxxes without any issues although they are a bit pricey. I also used a new plastic Traxxas $10 tranny case but changed the bearings Dynamite also makes a set of gears that will work. Any one of the the sets mentioned in your thread will work. Definately use the the e maxx small slipper and re gear the cb.

or

I found this to work very well for a spur gear mated to an e maxx double slipper plate. It will give you a wider array of gearing options using standard buggy cb's.

ImBroken, that's good info man. Thanks for posting all the parts. I just repaired my tranny. I will be sure and use all this stuff on the next overhaul. I love the before and after pics on your other post. In the "after" pics, were those the same plastic gears and case that had so much metal filings on them in the "before" pics?

Also, in those pics, that's the first gen t-Maxx tranny, correct?

Glad I could help...
Those were the same tranny gears taken out and cleaned up real good. That tranny is out of my 1st gen. Tmaxx, but that is an Al. case. If I'm not mistaken, the 1st & 2nd generation tranny's are the same....
